The Omron NX102-1100 is a high-performance programmable logic controller from the NX1P2 series, designed for machine automation. It integrates a CPU with built-in discrete I/O, EtherCAT master functionality, and motion control for up to 4 axes. This controller is ideal for packaging, printing, and handling machines requiring precise coordination between logic and motion.
The CPU is based on a 32-bit ARM processor with 256 MB RAM and 512 MB flash memory. Program capacity: 3 MB for the user program and 0.5 MB for data. Built-in I/O: 14 digital inputs (24V DC, sink/source), 10 digital outputs (transistor, 0.5A). The controller includes a real-time clock and micro SD card slot for data logging. Communication interfaces: 2x Ethernet ports (one for EtherCAT, one for standard TCP/IP, 1 Gbit/s), 1x USB host (front), 1x RS232C, and 1x RS422/485. EtherCAT supports up to 64 slaves and 4 axes of synchronized motion with a cycle time of 500 µs. The controller also supports OPC UA server for IIoT integration. Power supply: 24V DC, 1.2A. Dimensions: 100 mm H x 85 mm W x 80 mm D. Operating temperature 0-55°C. Weight approx. 0.5 kg.
Integrated CPU with 24 built-in I/O points
EtherCAT master for up to 64 nodes and 4 motion axes
Motion control: positioning, camming, gearing, interpolation
Dual Ethernet ports with Gigabit speed
OPC UA server native for secure data exchange
SD card slot for recipe and trace data
Programming with Sysmac Studio (IEC 61131-3)
Compatible with NX series I/O expansion
The NX102-1100 is programmed using Omron Sysmac Studio, which integrates logic, motion, and HMI in one environment. Languages: LD, FBD, ST, SFC. The controller supports multitasking and periodic tasks with cycle times down to 500 µs. For motion control, predefined function blocks (MC_Power, MC_MoveAbsolute) simplify implementation. The EtherCAT network configuration is automatic with slave detection. The built-in OPC UA server allows SCADA or MES systems to read and write data without additional gateways.
The NX102-1100 can control up to 4 axes of servo motors via EtherCAT (using Omron 1S or G5 series drives). Supported motion functions: point-to-point positioning, linear interpolation, circular interpolation, electronic camming, electronic gearing, and position/velocity/torque control. Synchronization accuracy ± 1 µs. The controller also supports encoder input for external master axis camming.

The built-in I/O can be supplemented by adding NX series digital, analog, temperature, or safety modules via the side expansion interface. Up to 8 NX units can be attached without an additional bus coupler. For larger systems, an EtherCAT slave coupler can extend the I/O count to hundreds of points.
The two Ethernet ports function as a built-in switch for daisy-chaining. One port can be used for EtherCAT (dedicated), the other for EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, or OPC UA. The RS232C and RS422/485 ports support serial protocols (Modbus RTU, Host Link, etc.). The USB host port allows connection of memory sticks for firmware updates and data logging. The controller also supports FTP server and email alerts.
Typical applications include high-speed packaging machines (vertical form fill seal), pick-and-place robots, printing presses, and CNC routers. The integrated motion and logic reduce the cost and complexity of separate motion controllers. The controller is also used in food and pharmaceutical machinery requiring traceability and IIoT connectivity.
The front LED indicators (RUN, ERR, IN, OUT) show CPU and I/O status. Sysmac Studio provides real-time diagnostics and a history of alarms. The micro SD card can store up to 1000 trace data sets for troubleshooting motion events. The controller supports automatic backup to SD card on power loss.
The NX102-1100 meets CE, UL 508, and RoHS. It is designed for pollution degree 2 environments. Operating humidity 10-95% non-condensing. Vibration resistance 2g (10-55 Hz). The module must be installed in a protected control cabinet (IP20).
The Omron NX102-1100 combines powerful PLC, motion control, and IIoT connectivity in a compact package. Its EtherCAT master, built-in I/O, and OPC UA server make it a versatile choice for advanced machine automation.
