The OMRON CQM1-TC101 is a dedicated temperature control module for the CQM1 series PLCs. It accepts thermocouple inputs and provides PID control output for two independent heating or cooling loops, making it ideal for thermal process control in plastics, packaging, and industrial ovens.
The CQM1-TC101 features two isolated thermocouple input channels. It supports K, J, T, R, S, B, and N thermocouple types, selectable per channel via DIP switches. The temperature measurement range corresponds to the thermocouple type: for Type K, -200 to 1300°C; for Type J, -100 to 1000°C; etc. Cold junction compensation is provided internally, with an accuracy of ±0.5°C. The module achieves resolution of 0.5°C for most ranges (1°C for high spans).
Input impedance is 1 MΩ, and common mode rejection ratio is 120 dB at 50/60 Hz, rejecting noise effectively. The module includes open-circuit detection, indicating sensor break as an out-of-range value. The conversion time per channel is 200 ms, with both channels updated within 400 ms.

Each channel provides a transistor output (NPN open collector, 50 mA, 24V DC) for driving solid state relays, contactors, or directly a heater. The outputs are available on the front terminal block. The module executes PID control with advanced parameters: proportional band (P) 0.1-999.9%, integral time (I) 0-9999 seconds, derivative time (D) 0-9999 seconds, and control period adjustable from 1 to 99 seconds. Both autotuning and manual tuning are supported. Autotuning can be initiated remotely from the PLC program.
The PID algorithm includes features like anti-windup, direct/reverse action (heating or cooling), and optional ON/OFF control with hysteresis. The module also supports heating/cooling dual output (the second output can be driven from an external digital output). Setpoints can be changed from the PLC program or the front panel (if used with a programming console).
The CQM1-TC101 occupies one I/O slot and exchanges data with the CPU via a fixed allocation of 16 input words and 16 output words. Process value, setpoint, output value, and status bits (alarm, ready, autotuning in progress) are mapped. Alarms: high/low deviation, absolute high/low, each with independent hysteresis. The module can generate interrupt flags to the CPU for alarm handling.
Configuration is done through DM parameter settings loaded from the PLC program or using a programming terminal. The unit retains settings in EEPROM. Both operating temperature range is 0 to 55°C, with humidity 10-90% non-condensing.
Common applications include extruder barrel temperature control, mold temperature regulation, packaging sealing bars, soldering equipment, and environmental chambers. The CQM1-TC101 reduces PLC program load by handling PID calculation internally, freeing CPU resources for logic and sequence control. It ensures stable temperature with minimal overshoot and tight regulation.
Installation is straightforward via the CQM1 backplane. LEDs indicate run, power, and output status for each channel. For systems requiring more than two loops, multiple TC101 modules can be stacked. The robust design ensures years of reliable service. The OMRON CQM1-TC101 remains a go-to solution for precise temperature control in legacy and new CQM1-based automation systems.
