Omron BY50S Uninterruptible Power Supply

The Omron BY50S is a standby uninterruptible power supply UPS designed for personal computers, displays, peripherals, and other industrial automation equipment. This unit provides 500 VA output capacity with 300 watts of continuous power handling. The UPS protects connected equipment from power supply failures including outages, voltage fluctuations, and line surges originating from the commercial power source.

Output Specifications

Output capacity: 500 VA maximum apparent power, 300 watts maximum real power. Output voltage during commercial power operation passes through input voltage. During battery backup operation, output voltage is AC 100 V ±6 percent. Output frequency: During commercial operation, output follows input frequency. During battery operation, output frequency is 50 Hz or 60 Hz ±0.1 Hz. Output waveform is sine wave during both commercial and backup operation for compatibility with sensitive electronic loads. Output socket count: 4 x NEMA5-15R grounded 3-pole receptacles for connecting protected equipment. Backup time: 3.5 minutes at 300 watt load at nominal conditions. Full recharge time: 12 hours from complete discharge.


Input Specifications

Rated input voltage: AC 100 V. Input voltage range accommodates 100, 110, 115, and 120 V AC operation. Rated input frequency: 50 Hz or 60 Hz ±4 Hz for global compatibility. Input plug type: NEMA5-15P. Input current at rated voltage: 5.5 A, with minimum input voltage current rating of 6.5 A. Supply method: standby type where load is normally supplied by commercial power with battery backup engaged only when power fails. Number of input and output phases: single-phase 2-wire with ground.

Battery System

Battery type: sealed lead-acid battery, maintenance-free and valve-regulated for safe operation. Battery voltage: DC 12 V. Battery capacity: 7.2 Ah. Number of batteries: single battery unit. Battery is user-replaceable with hot-swappable capability for service without shutting down connected equipment. Automatic battery test function performs periodic self-diagnosis of battery health. The battery test can also be initiated manually via the front panel Beep Stop-Test Switch. Battery expansion capability is available for extended runtime requirements.

Communication and Monitoring

Serial communication interface: RS-232C via USB B-type connector. Free UPS monitoring software enables automatic system shutdown during extended power failures, protecting data and preventing improper system termination. The monitoring software supports Windows operating systems including Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Server editions, and Windows XP. Linux and Mac OS X operating systems are also supported. Contact closure outputs are available for external status signaling. LED display provides power status, battery status, and fault indication. LCD display capability for enhanced monitoring on supported versions.

Dimensions: Width 92 mm x Depth 285 mm x Height 165 mm. Weight: approximately 4.5 kg. Housing orientation supports either vertical or horizontal placement. Cooling method: natural convection with no cooling fans for silent operation. Noise level: less than 40 dB. Cable length: approximately 1.8 meters. Color finish is standard gray with clear labeling of indicators and controls.

Operating temperature range: 0°C to 40°C. Operating humidity: 25 percent to 85 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. Storage temperature range: -15°C to 40°C. Storage humidity: 10 percent to 90 percent relative humidity. Standard noise regulation compliance: VCCI Class B for residential and office environment compatibility. The UPS is designed for indoor use in clean, dust-controlled environments.


Protection and Functions

Input protection: reset-type overcurrent protection. Output protection: overload protection with automatic shutdown on sustained overload. Surge and noise protection provides line-to-line and line-to-ground transient suppression. Switching time when transitioning to battery backup: 10 milliseconds maximum, seamless enough for most electronic loads. Cold start compatibility allows battery-powered startup without commercial power present. Output socket control provides individual outlet management. SNMP compatibility via optional adapter for network monitoring and management.

Standards and Compliance

UL certified for North American electrical safety standards. The UPS complies with applicable EMC standards for industrial and residential environments. FCC Class B for emissions and immunity. RoHS compliant for restriction of hazardous substances. Battery recycling information is provided as lead-acid batteries are valuable recyclable resources.

Included accessories: USB connection cable 2.2 meters, rubber feet for desk mounting. Optional field maintenance service package and extended warranty service package are available through Omron distributors. Replacement battery packs are available for routine maintenance and extended service life. SNMP adapter enables network-based UPS monitoring and management.
