Omron FH-2050 Vision Controller for Industrial Automation
The Omron FH-2050 (also written FH 2050) is a powerful vision controller within the FH series, designed for high-speed, multi-camera inspection tasks. It processes images from up to four cameras simultaneously, performing pattern matching, measurement, OCR, and defect detection at production line speeds.
Processing Hardware
The controller uses an Intel quad-core processor (2.5 GHz base, 3.2 GHz boost) with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and 128 GB SSD storage. A dedicated GPU (Intel UHD) accelerates convolution and filtering operations. The device runs on Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC, providing real-time determinism through the Omron Vision Engine.
Camera and Lighting Interfaces
Four independent GigE Vision ports (PoE capable) support monochrome or color cameras up to 20 megapixels each. Trigger inputs (8 opto-isolated, 24 V DC) synchronize with photoelectric sensors. Strobe outputs (4, 24 V DC, 500 mA) control external lighting. The controller also accepts CoaXPress cameras via an optional expansion card.
Software and Algorithm Library
Pre-installed software includes FH Vision Editor with a drag-and-drop flowchart interface. Algorithms: geometric pattern search (360-degree rotation tolerance), edge detection, blob analysis, barcode/2D code reading (QR, Data Matrix), and color histograms. The user can integrate custom C# or Python scripts for specialized post-processing. Recipe management allows quick changeover between different product types.
Communication and Data Output
The FH-2050 communicates results via Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or Modbus TCP to PLCs. Discrete outputs (8 NPN/PNP, 24 V DC) signal pass/fail. A built-in web server enables remote monitoring and result logging to a SQL database. USB 3.0 ports allow exporting inspection images to external drives.

Operating temperature: 0°C to 45°C. Humidity: 20% to 80% non-condensing. Power supply: 24 V DC ±10%, 3 A max. Dimensions (W x H x D): 220 mm x 180 mm x 90 mm. Mounting: DIN rail or wall-mount bracket. IP20 protection. Fanless operation reduces dust accumulation, making it suitable for food and pharmaceutical lines.
