The Pilz 570640 (PSEN SL-1.0P) is a non-contact safety switch based on transponder (RFID) technology. It is used for position monitoring of movable guards (hinged, sliding, or removable doors) on industrial machinery. The switch consists of an actuator (transponder) and a sensor unit. When the actuator is within the sensing range, the two OSSD outputs (PNP) are enabled, allowing the machine to run. The device is rated up to PL e (Cat. 4) per EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL3 per IEC 61508. The PSEN SL-1.0P features a 24 V DC supply, two safety outputs, one auxiliary output, and IP67 protection.
Supply voltage: 24 V DC (19.2-28.8 V). Current consumption: 50 mA (without load). Sensing range: 8 mm (operating), 4 mm (safe off). Actuator type: PSEN SL-1.0 (transponder, coded individually). Safety outputs: 2 PNP transistors (OSSD), 0.5 A each. Auxiliary output: 1 PNP transistor (non-safety), 0.1 A. Response time: ≤ 20 ms. Switching frequency: ≤ 1 Hz. Protection class: IP67 (sensor and actuator). Operating temperature: -25°C to +70°C. Housing material: PBT (plastic). Dimensions: 36 mm × 24 mm × 13 mm (sensor). M8 connector (4-pin) for electrical connection. The actuator is supplied separately but is coded to the sensor; the PSEN SL-1.0P requires the matching actuator (e.g., 570630).
Non-contact RFID transponder technology (no mechanical wear)
Individual coding (high coding level against tampering)
2 OSSD safety outputs (PNP, 0.5 A)
1 auxiliary output for status indication
Short circuit and cross-fault detection
IP67 protection for harsh environments
M8 connector for easy installation
Category 4 / PL e / SIL CL3

The PSEN SL-1.0P works on the principle of magnetic inductive coupling with an encrypted transponder. When the actuator is brought into the sensing field of the sensor, the sensor reads the unique code. If the code matches the stored value, the internal safety logic enables the two OSSD outputs. If the actuator moves away (guard opened), the OSSD outputs switch to a low-impedance OFF state within 20 ms. The auxiliary output provides a complementary signal (OFF when actuator present, ON when absent). The switch includes a teach-in process to assign the actuator to the sensor; once taught, only that actuator will be recognised.
Mount the sensor on the fixed frame of the guard and the actuator on the movable part. Ensure the sensing faces are aligned and the distance is within the specified operating range (8 mm). Do not install ferromagnetic materials near the sensing field. Connect the sensor using an M8 4-pin connector (not included). Pinout: 1 = brown (24 V DC), 2 = white (OSSD1), 3 = blue (0 V), 4 = black (OSSD2 / auxiliary). The auxiliary output function (OSSD2 or auxiliary) is selected by wiring: if black is connected to the safety PLC as an OSSD, it acts as a second safety channel; if left unconnected or used for diagnostics, it provides an auxiliary signal. The sensor is pre-configured at the factory; a teach-in is only needed when replacing the sensor or actuator. Follow the teach-in procedure described in the user manual (power on, place actuator, wait 30 seconds).
Typical applications include safety gates on packaging machinery, access doors on robotic enclosures, removable guards on printing presses, and any guard where mechanical contact switches are undesirable due to wear, hygiene (food industry), or high operating frequencies.
The sensor has a yellow LED that indicates actuator detection (solid on = actuator present, OSSD enabled; blinking = teach-in mode; off = no actuator). A green LED indicates supply power. If the OSSD outputs fail, the sensor will indicate an error by alternating blinking patterns.
CE, UL, TÜV certified. RoHS compliant. Operating humidity 10-90% non-condensing. Vibration resistance 5g (10-55 Hz). The sensor is suitable for industrial environments with IP67 protection, allowing washdown or outdoor installation.
The Pilz 570640 PSEN SL-1.0P provides a reliable, wear-free solution for guard door monitoring. Its transponder technology, high coding level, and PL e rating make it suitable for safety-critical applications requiring advanced tamper protection.
