The Omron V680-CA5D02-V2 is a high-performance RFID controller designed for the V680 series of RFID readers and tags. It supports connection of up to four V680 series antennas (heads) simultaneously, making it suitable for multi-point identification applications such as conveyor sorting, tool crib management, and work-in-process tracking. The controller features RS-232C and Ethernet (100BASE-TX) interfaces, auto-sensing baud rates, and a command-response protocol for easy integration with PLCs and host systems.
Power supply: 24 V DC (20.4-26.4 V), consumption 300 mA. Number of antenna ports: 4 (M8 connectors). Supported antennas: V680-HA series (e.g., V680-HA63, HA52, HA51). RF frequency: 13.56 MHz (HF). Communication with host: RS-232C (up to 115.2 kbps) and Ethernet (100BASE-TX, TCP/IP, Modbus TCP). Protocol: V680 series command protocol (binary). Memory for data logging: 8 MB (approx. 10,000 tag read/write logs). Dimensions: 110 mm × 40 mm × 100 mm. DIN rail mountable. Protection rating: IP20. Operating temperature: 0°C to 50°C. Storage: -25°C to 70°C. The controller includes LEDs for power, communication, and antenna status.

Auto detection of antenna connection and tag presence
Built-in data logging for traceability
Command-response protocol compatible with PLCs (e.g., CS/CJ via SCU)
Auto-sensing baud rate (RS-232C)
Compact DIN rail housing
The V680-CA5D02-V2 operates as a master controller for RFID readers. It sends high-frequency energy to the connected antenna, which then communicates with passive RFID tags (13.56 MHz, ISO 15693 compatible). The controller can read tag UIDs, read/write user memory blocks, and perform anti-collision reads for multiple tags in the field. It supports both continuous and triggered reading. The host can command the controller to perform reads/writes using a simple command frame (header, command code, data, checksum). The controller also has a built-in web server for configuration and diagnostics via Ethernet.
Mount the controller on a 35 mm DIN rail. Connect 24 V DC power to the terminal block. Connect up to four antennas using M8 4-pin cables (available from Omron). Each antenna port has a maximum cable length of 10 m. For host communication, connect the RS-232C cable to a 9-pin D-sub connector (DTE) or use Ethernet (RJ45). The controller can be configured as a Modbus TCP server on Ethernet. Set the unit’s IP address and node ID via DIP switches or software. The front panel DIP switches also set the RS-232C baud rate (default 19200 bps). Ensure proper grounding of the DIN rail to avoid noise.
Typical applications include:
Conveyor sorting (reading tags on cartons at four read points)
Tool identification in CNC machines (multiple tool holders)
Work-in-process tracking on assembly lines (multiple stations)
Document tracking and library systems
Access control (four-door control)

The controller can be configured using the V680 Configuration Tool software (Windows). Settings include antenna output power, reading mode (auto/trigger), tag data format, and host protocol. The controller also supports a setting via command-line commands sent over RS-232C or Ethernet. For PLC integration, sample ladder programs are available for Omron, Siemens, and Mitsubishi. The V680-CA5D02-V2 can be used with Omron’s CX-Programmer via SCU module to exchange data.
The controller is CE, UL, and RoHS compliant. Operating humidity 35-85% non-condensing. Vibration 2g (10-55 Hz). The unit is IP20 and must be installed in a control cabinet. The antennas (sold separately) are IP67 or IP54 rated depending on model.
The Omron V680-CA5D02-V2 RFID controller provides a versatile, multi-antenna solution for industrial identification. Its dual communication ports, 4-antenna support, and compatibility with standard HF tags make it a robust choice for production control and traceability.
