The Pilz PSEN cs1.1P (order number 540050) is a non-contact safety switch belonging to the PSENcode family. It operates using RFID (radio frequency identification) transponder technology to monitor the position of movable guards, such as safety doors or covers. The auxiliary output can be used to signal “guard closed” to a PLC for status indication.

Safety Compliance

The PSEN cs1.1P is certified according to EN 60947-5-3 (requirements for non-contact position sensors) and can be used in safety circuits up to Category 4 / PL e (ISO 13849-1) and SIL 3 (IEC 61508) when monitored by a suitable safety controller or safety relay. The switch supports series connection (SDD), allowing multiple PSENcode switches to be connected in a chain while maintaining SIL 3 performance.

Mounting and Installation

The switch can be flush‑mounted into metal or plastic panels (follow installation guide for material influence on sensing distance). It accepts actuation from all four directions, giving flexibility in hinge or sliding door designs. The M12 connector (8‑pin) is standard, and the switch is supplied without an actuator. For correct operation, the actuator must be ordered separately (model PSEN cs1.1). The operating distance variation with temperature is ±0.01 mm/°C.

Diagnostic Capabilities

A built‑in LED on the switch provides local status indication: green = guard closed and outputs active, red = guard open or fault, flashing = teaching mode. The switch also reports diagnostic data over the auxiliary output and can be read by a safety PLC via the OSSD lines using pulse testing techniques. No teaching is required for standard operation; the switch is pre‑configured to accept any actuator from the PSEN cs1.1 family.
