The Schneider METSEPM8243 is a PowerLogic PM800 series three-phase power meter designed for high-accuracy energy monitoring and power quality analysis. It provides class 0.5S accuracy for active energy (IEC 62053-22) and class 2 for reactive energy. The meter measures voltage, current, power (kW, kVAR, kVA), power factor, frequency, and total harmonic distortion (THD). It features a backlit LCD display, digital inputs/outputs, and dual communication ports: Modbus RTU (RS-485) and Modbus TCP (Ethernet). The PM8243 is ideal for sub-billing, cost allocation, and load profiling in industrial and commercial facilities.
Measurement type: 3-phase, 4-wire (WYE) or 3-wire (delta). Voltage input: direct up to 480V L-N / 830V L-L (CAT III). Current inputs: 5A secondary (compatible with CTs). Accuracy: active energy class 0.5S (IEC), reactive energy class 2. Sampling: 16 samples per cycle. Display: backlit LCD, 4 lines × 20 characters, with bar graph for load. Communication: RS-485 (Modbus RTU), Ethernet (Modbus TCP). Digital I/O: 2 digital inputs (for pulse or status), 2 digital outputs (alarm or pulse). Auxiliary power: 100-240V AC/DC. Dimensions: 96 mm × 96 mm × 67 mm (DIN standard). Protection rating: IP54 (front), IP30 (rear). Operating temperature: -25°C to +70°C.

The PM8243 continuously measures voltage and current on each phase, calculating active, reactive, and apparent power. It supports demand measurement (sliding window) and maximum demand (MD). Total harmonic distortion (THD) is computed for voltage and current. The meter includes a real-time clock and can store historical energy data (daily, monthly) in non-volatile memory. With the optional memory module, it can also log trend data.
The RS-485 port supports Modbus RTU (baud rates up to 115200). The Ethernet port supports Modbus TCP as well as a web server for basic monitoring. The meter can be integrated into energy management systems (EMS), SCADA, or PLCs using Modbus. The digital inputs can be used to read external pulses from water, gas, or other meters. The digital outputs can be configured to pulse for energy consumption (kWh/kVARh) or to indicate alarm conditions.

The METSEPM8243 is used for sub-metering of industrial machinery, energy cost allocation, power quality monitoring, and load profiling. Typical applications include manufacturing plants, data centers, commercial buildings, and renewable energy installations.
Mount the meter in a 96 × 96 mm panel cutout. Connect voltage inputs (L1, L2, L3, N) via appropriately rated fuses (1A). Connect current transformers (CTs) to the secondary terminals (S1, S2). Ensure CTs are rated for the primary current. Connect RS-485 A, B terminals to the communication bus. Ethernet cable for Modbus TCP. The auxiliary supply (100-240V AC/DC) powers the meter. The digital I/O connections are made on the rear. Use appropriate wire sizes (0.5-2.5 mm²). After wiring, configure the CT ratio, PT ratio, communication parameters, and display settings via the front panel.
Configuration is done using the front panel keys (up/down/enter) or via Modbus using configuration software (e.g., PowerView or ION Setup). Parameters include CT primary/secondary, PT ratio, system type (4-wire or 3-wire), communication protocol, baud rate, parity, and Modbus address. The display can be customized to show up to six measured values per screen. The meter also provides a scrolling list of parameters.
The PM8243 requires no regular maintenance. It is factory calibrated and does not need field calibration. The internal clock battery (lithium) lasts approximately 10 years. Replace the meter if display becomes dim or unreadable. For periodic verification, compare with a reference standard using test pulses from the digital outputs.
The meter is CE, UL, and IEC certified. Complies with IEC 62053-22 (class 0.5S), IEC 61000-6-2/4, and RoHS. Operating temperature: -25°C to +70°C. Humidity: 5-95% non-condensing. Protection rating: IP54 front panel.
The Schneider METSEPM8243 is a high-accuracy power meter suitable for energy monitoring and sub-billing. Its dual communication options, digital I/O, and class 0.5S accuracy make it a versatile choice for industrial and commercial energy management applications.
