Programming: ADLINK provides an API library (Matrix DIO) that supports functions such as GPIOInitialize, GPI-Read, and GPOWrites, similar to MXE-200 but with a different model.

3.4 PCIe Mini Card and USIM Expansion

Built in a full height PCIe Mini Card slot, supporting WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G/4G modules GPS、 Video capture card or security module (SAM). The matching USIM card holder is used for cellular communication. Attention should be paid during installation:

Module fixation: Use the two M2.5 screws provided to secure and prevent vibration and detachment.

Antenna wiring: If a wireless module is used, the antenna needs to be led out to the outside of the chassis. It is recommended to use SMA interface for installation through panel openings, and the length of the antenna feed line should be as short as possible (<30cm) to reduce attenuation.

Driver compatibility: Under Windows 7/XP, the corresponding module driver needs to be installed. If using a 3G module, dial-up connection also needs to be configured.

Storage solution and wide temperature deployment

MXE-1300 offers three storage methods:

SATA-II: It can install 2.5-inch HDD or SSD internally (connected to the motherboard SATA interface).

External CF card slot: Supports Type I CF cards (supporting PIO/DMA mode), and can directly boot the system from the CF card.

Optional Pre installed Storage: Factory installed with 500GB HDD (0-60 ℃), 32GB MLC SSD (0-70 ℃), or 8GB SLC industrial grade SSD (-40~85 ℃).

Key engineering decisions:

If the on-site ambient temperature is below 0 ℃ or above 60 ℃, industrial grade SLC SSD or CF card must be selected. Ordinary HDD and commercial SSD may not start at low temperatures (due to motor grease solidification or deterioration of electrical characteristics of flash memory particles).

If the system needs to frequently read and write logs and avoid using CF cards (with limited write life), SLC SSDs should be used and wear balance should be enabled.

The external CF card slot is convenient for system upgrades or configuration changes, but please note that the card body protrudes from the chassis and needs to be dust-proof and waterproof.

Wide temperature verification: According to the manual, when paired with industrial grade SSD or CF, MXE-1300 can operate stably at -20 ℃~70 ℃ (Extended Temperature Option needs to be ordered, which is actually a screening service). If you purchase wide temperature storage on your own, you also need to ensure that the overall heat dissipation design meets the requirements - maintain at least 5cm of space at the top of the chassis to avoid direct sunlight or heat source radiation.


Software support and driver deployment

MXE-1300 officially supports Windows 7/Embedded 7 (32-bit) and Windows XP/XP Embedded (32-bit, but XP support has limitations, please refer to the official website). Not pre installed with Linux, but ADLINK provides Linux BSP (please contact technical support).

Suggested installation sequence for drivers (similar to MXE-200):

Chipset driver (Intel NM10)

Graphics card driver (integrated GMA 3600/3650, supports VGA+DVI dual display, up to 1920 × 1200)

Network card driver (Intel 82574L)

USB 3.0? This model is USB 2.0 and does not require special drivers.

Serial port/I/O driver (used to switch between 422/485 and DIO functions)

Watchdog and SEMA tool (for system health monitoring and fault self recovery)

Special reminder: If installing Windows 7, it is necessary to inject the AHCI driver in advance (if using a SATA hard drive), otherwise there may be a blue screen. It is recommended to set SATA mode to IDE compatible mode in BIOS (if the driver is not integrated), or use a tool to preload the driver.


Watchdog and Remote Monitoring (SEMA)

MXE-1300 integrates a hardware watchdog timer (WDT) that can automatically reset when the system crashes. The programming interface is similar to MXE-200, and the calling sequence is:

InitWDT() -> SetWDT(tick, unit) -> StartWDT(), Then in the main loop, ResetWDT() feeds the dog. If the timeout occurs, the system will reset.

At the same time, ADLINK's SEMA (Smart Embedded Management Agent) tool provides remote monitoring functionality, allowing real-time viewing of CPU temperature, system voltage, runtime, and other information, as well as setting threshold alarms. At unmanned stations (such as roadside traffic control boxes), SEMA combined with WDT can effectively reduce the frequency of operation and maintenance attendance.


Power supply design and grounding specifications

The MXE-1300 adopts 3-pin DC input terminals (GND, V -, V+), supports a wide voltage range of 6-36V, and is suitable for vehicle batteries (12V/24V) or industrial switch power supplies (24V). Notes:

The polarity must never be reversed, otherwise the internal protective diode may burn out.

It is recommended to parallel TVS tubes (such as SMBJ24A) and varistors on the input side to absorb power grid surges.

Use shielded power cords with the shielding layer grounded at a single point at the power end to reduce common mode interference.

If using a 90W AC-DC adapter, it is necessary to ensure that its operating temperature is within the range of 0-50 ℃ (commercial grade). If it is used in high temperature environments (such as outdoor cabinets), an industrial grade power supply should be selected.
