Firmware update and Comboard Loader

The firmware of some communication cards is stored in Flash. Starting from POS 5.01 of the operating system, GS-2 supports loading communication card firmware through PROG PORT to achieve user-friendly updates of communication drivers. When updating, it is necessary to unplug the operating mode jumper (usually J7) on the communication card from RUN to PRG, and then reinstall GS-2. Connect the PC serial port to the ROG PORT of GS-2 using a download cable and power it on. The red ERROR light on the communication card should be on, the green ACTIV light should flash 4 times per second, and then both lights should go out. GS-2 displays COMBOARD LOAD VERSION 2.0. Run COMLoad.EXE and firmware binary files on a PC. The green ACTIV light flashes intermittently during transmission; After successful transmission, the green light goes out and the red light does not light up. Power off, turn the jumper back to RUN, and reinstall the communication card. You can view the current driver version in the download mask.

Common troubleshooting and replacement suggestions

Unable to start or black screen: Check if the 24V power supply is within range, if SMM is securely plugged in, if WRITE ENABLE is OFF, and if the communication card is installed properly. If the power supply is normal but there is no display, it may be a hardware failure of SMM or GS-2, and you can try replacing SMM or the whole machine.

Communication failure: The status mask displays PLC LINK NOK. First, confirm that the communication card type matches the PLC protocol and whether the communication driver has been initialized. Check the shielding and wiring of communication cables, confirm the baud rate, station number, and terminal resistance on the PLC side. If the communication card is damaged, it can be replaced with a card of the same model and the firmware can be reloaded.

Download failed: Confirm that the WRITE ENABLE is ON, download cable 2 to 6 pins 1:1, PDT version is compatible with the project, and SMM capacity is sufficient. If Transfer Active does not flash, check the PC serial port and cable. After the download is complete, be sure to turn off WRITE ENABLE.

Touch unresponsive or drifting: Clean the screen surface, check for strong electromagnetic interference, and confirm that communication cables and power cables are routed separately. If the touch area fails locally, it may be a hardware problem with the touch panel and needs to be replaced.

Printer not working: Confirm that SMM-2 is used, the printer is connected to the ROG PORT, the baud rate matches, and the cable shielding is good.

Replace discontinued HMI: If the original HMI is discontinued, GS-2 can be used as a substitute, but the hole size of 296 × 196 mm, installation hole spacing, 24V power supply, communication protocol, and project data need to be checked. SMM-2 supports multiple languages and printing, and the communication card determines the PLC protocol. After replacement, the project needs to be downloaded again and pre-set. If the communication card is not compatible, it is necessary to replace the communication card and update the firmware.

Spare parts recommendations: SMM-1 or SMM-2, communication card, download cable, IP65 installation kit, power terminal. Before replacing SMM or communication card, power must be cut off and anti-static measures must be taken. Project data should be regularly backed up to a PC for replacement or recovery. If the GS-2 is completely discontinued, priority can be given to upgrading models of the same series, checking the compatibility of openings, power supply, communication interfaces, and SMM, and if necessary, recompiling the project through PDT.
