OMRON 3G3MX2-A4015-E AC Drive: 1.5kW 400V Three-Phase Variable Frequency Drive

The OMRON 3G3MX2-A4015-E is a compact, high-performance variable frequency drive (VFD) belonging to the 3G3MX2 series. It is designed for three-phase induction motors up to 1.5 kW (2 HP) with an input voltage of 380-480 VAC. This drive features sensorless vector control for high starting torque (200% at 0.5 Hz), built-in Modbus RTU communication, and an easy-to-use keypad with parameter copying. It is suitable for applications such as pumps, fans, conveyors, mixers, and small machine tools. The 3G3MX2 series is based on the Yaskawa V1000 technology, ensuring reliable and efficient motor control.


Electrical Specifications

The 3G3MX2-A4015-E accepts three-phase input voltage of 380-480 VAC ±10%, 50/60 Hz. Rated output power is 1.5 kW with an output current of 4.1 A at 400V. Output frequency range is 0 to 400 Hz (V/f control) or 0 to 120 Hz (vector control). Overload capacity is 150% for 60 seconds, 200% for 3 seconds. The drive uses IGBT technology with a switching frequency of 2-15 kHz (adjustable). Efficiency is ≥ 95% at rated load. Power factor is >0.98.

Control and Performance Features

The drive offers three control modes: V/f control (for general applications), sensorless vector control (for high torque at low speed), and PM motor control (for permanent magnet synchronous motors). It includes an auto-tuning function to optimize motor parameters. The sensorless vector control provides 200% starting torque at 0.5 Hz, making it suitable for hoisting and high-inertia loads. Speed regulation is ±0.5% of max speed under varying loads. The drive also features a built-in PID controller (for pressure, flow, or temperature regulation).

User Interface and Configuration

The front panel includes a digital LED display (4 digits), a potentiometer for frequency setting, and 6 keys for RUN, STOP, MENU, and navigation. Parameters are organized in easy-to-navigate groups (A, B, C, D, E, F, H, U). The keypad supports parameter copying to multiple drives (via optional copy unit or using the keypad). The drive also supports remote operation via external potentiometer or 0-10V / 4-20mA analog inputs. The integrated RS-485 port allows connection to a PLC or SCADA system using Modbus RTU protocol.

Protection and Safety Functions

The 3G3MX2-A4015-E includes comprehensive protection: overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload (electronic thermal), short circuit, ground fault, and heatsink overtemperature. It also features a motor overload protection (PTC thermistor input) and a built-in braking transistor (for external braking resistor, optional). Safety functions: Safe Torque Off (STO) as per IEC 61800-5-2 (SIL2). The drive also has a built-in EMC filter (Class C2) to reduce conducted emissions.

Enclosure rating: IP20 (open type). Operating temperature: -10°C to +50°C (derate above 40°C). Storage temperature: -20°C to +60°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. Vibration: 5.9 m/s² (0.6G) at 10-55 Hz. Dimensions: 150mm (H) x 108mm (W) x 160mm (D). Weight: 1.6 kg. Mounting: DIN rail or screw panel. The drive meets CE, UL, and RoHS standards. It is designed for pollution degree 2 environments.

Typical Applications

Common uses include: speed control of fans and pumps in HVAC systems, conveyor drives in material handling, spindle drives in small machine tools, and mixer agitators. The sensorless vector control allows stable operation even with fluctuating loads. The built-in PID is ideal for constant pressure pumping or constant airflow systems. The drive’s compact size saves panel space, and the easy programming reduces setup time.


Wiring and Installation

Power terminals: L1, L2, L3 for input; U, V, W for motor. Control terminals: S1-S7 for digital inputs (programmable), A1-A2 for analog input (0-10V/4-20mA), AM for analog output (0-10V), and a relay output (MA-MB-MC). Use shielded cables for control signals and ground the drive properly. The braking resistor (optional, 100Ω/100W) connects to B1 and B2 terminals. The RS-485 port (RJ45) uses Modbus RTU with default baud rate 9600. Refer to the manual for complete wiring diagrams.

Ordering and Support

Order number: 3G3MX2-A4015-E. The drive is supplied with a quick start guide. Programming software (CX-Drive) is available for free download from OMRON. A USB copy unit (3G3AX-MX2-COP) is optional for parameter cloning. OMRON provides a 2-year warranty. For advanced applications, the drive can be integrated with OMRON PLCs via Modbus or through the optional fieldbus modules (Profibus, DeviceNet, EtherCAT). The 3G3MX2 series remains active and fully supported as of 2025.
