Siemens 6SN1145-1BA02-0CA1 SIMODRIVE 611 Power Supply Module

The Siemens 6SN1145-1BA02-0CA1 is a regulated infeed/regenerative power module from the SIMODRIVE 611 series of drive converters. This module supplies DC link power to connected drive modules, such as the 6SN1123 series power sections, and can return regenerative energy from braking motors back to the AC supply line. It is an essential component in SIMODRIVE 611 digital drive groups, providing the regulated DC bus voltage required for multiple axes of servo and spindle control in machine tools and automation systems.

Power Ratings and Configuration

The 6SN1145-1BA02-0CA1 is rated for 36 kW (continuous) and 47 kW (peak) of regulated power. It accepts a three-phase AC input voltage, typically 380-480 V, 50/60 Hz, and produces a regulated DC link voltage used by the downstream power modules. The module includes an internal line contactor with normally closed (NC) contacts, facilitating safe disconnection of the mains supply under fault conditions. Internal cooling is provided by integrated fans, with airflow directed through the module's heatsinks and vents. The module is designed for mounting in a SIMODRIVE 611 drive cabinet, with suitable clearance for air intake and exhaust.

Regenerative Capability

A key feature of this module is its regenerative capability. When motors connected to downstream power modules decelerate, kinetic energy is converted back into electrical energy, raising the DC link voltage. The infeed module detects this overvoltage condition and inverts the energy back to the AC supply line, returning it to the mains rather than dissipating it as heat in braking resistors. This regenerative design improves overall system efficiency, reduces cooling requirements, and eliminates the need for large external braking resistors in applications with frequent deceleration cycles, such as high-speed machining, punching, and press feed systems.


Integration with SIMODRIVE 611 System

The SIMODRIVE 611 modular architecture allows a single infeed module to supply power to multiple drive modules mounted on the same DC link busbar. The 6SN1145-1BA02-0CA1 is compatible with 6SN1123 series single-axis and double-axis power modules for servo control, as well as 6SN1118 series control modules and 6SN1125 series spindle modules. Configuration involves setting the device address using DIP switches, connecting the DC link busbar, and wiring the AC input and control signals. The module communicates with the higher-level control unit, such as a SIMODRIVE 611 digital control module or a SIMATIC PLC, via the drive bus interface, exchanging status and command signals for coordinated multi-axis operation.

Control and Monitoring Interfaces

The module provides several terminals for external control and monitoring functions. The line contactor is controlled via terminal NS1-NS2, with contactor state signaled through terminal 48 enable logic. Ready relay contacts indicate when the DC link is charged and the module is ready for operation. The module also provides signals for undervoltage and overvoltage detection, overtemperature warning, and overload status. For diagnostics, LED indicators on the front panel display supply voltage presence, DC link status, and fault conditions. Firmware parameters are stored in the module and can be accessed via SIMODRIVE 611 configuration software.

Environmental and Installation Specifications

Installation must be performed in a clean, dry electrical cabinet with at least IP20 protection. The module should be mounted vertically with adequate airflow clearance above and below. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C, with a maximum altitude of 1000 m without derating. For higher altitudes, current and power must be derated by 1% per 100 m above 1000 m, up to 2000 m maximum. The module carries IP20 ingress protection, requiring enclosure mounting to prevent contact with live parts. Storage temperature range is -25°C to +70°C, and humidity should not exceed 95% non-condensing.

Safety and Compliance

The 6SN1145-1BA02-0CA1 complies with CE and UL standards for industrial control equipment. Safety features include integrated ground fault detection, overcurrent protection, overtemperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. The line contactor with NC contacts ensures that the AC supply is reliably disconnected when the module is not enabled or when a fault occurs. In safety applications, the module can be integrated with external safety relays to implement Safe Torque Off or other safety functions, though safety-rated disconnection is typically implemented at the power module level.

Applications

This infeed module is primarily used in SIMODRIVE 611-based drive systems for CNC machine tools, including turning centers, milling machines, grinding machines, and machining centers. It also finds application in general automation systems requiring multiple axes of high-performance motion control, such as printing presses, converting machinery, packaging lines, and material handling systems. The regenerative feature is particularly beneficial in hoisting and winching applications where overhauling loads could cause uncontrolled acceleration, as well as in test stands and dynamometers where rapid speed reversals are routine.
