Siemens 6SY7000-0AC80 Power Interface Module
The Siemens 6SY7000-0AC80 is a printed circuit board designed for the SIMOREG DC master series (6RA70, 6RA24) and some SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES applications. It serves as a gate driver / trigger board for thyristor power stacks, converting low-level control signals from the regulator board into high-current pulses to fire the power semiconductors. This module is essential for armature or field control in large DC drives.
Technical Description
The board measures 220 mm x 150 mm and includes six pulse transformer units, each capable of delivering 1 A peak gate current (30 V isolation). The board accepts fiber optic control inputs from the main regulator (typically 6RA70.C2) via six HFBR-2412 receivers. Outputs are via screw terminals to external thyristor modules (like SEMIPACK). The board also includes a power supply section that derives ±15 V and 24 V from the main DC bus. It has four red LED indicators for each phase (pulse OK) and a green LED for supply.
Electrical Specifications
Control signal (input): optical, wavelength 820 nm. Output gate pulse: +12 V / -4 V, 1 A peak, duration adjustable (10-200 µs). Isolation voltage: 2.5 kV between primary and secondary. The board requires 24 V DC (300 mA) and ±15 V DC (100 mA) from an external supply. Operating frequency: 50/60 Hz (synchronized to line). Phase loss detection is built-in. The PCB is double-sided with through-hole components and conformal coating for dust and moisture resistance.

Compatibility and Replacement
This module is used in 6RA70 drive sizes C, D, and E (armature currents 150-2000 A). It directly replaces part numbers 6SY7000-0AC80 Rev. A through D. When replacing, ensure that the fiber optic cables are connected to the correct ports: X11 to X16. A mismatch causes incorrect firing sequence and drive fault F004 (phase loss). The board can be tested by measuring gate voltages on an oscilloscope with a dummy load.
Environmental and Mechanical
Operating temperature: 0°C to 50°C. Storage: -25°C to 70°C. Humidity: < 85% non-condensing. The board is mounted vertically on four standoffs inside the drive cabinet. No special grounding is needed; the chassis provides ground. Weight: 0.3 kg. The board has no field-replaceable fuses; internal thin-film fuses are soldered. Spare boards should be stored in anti-static bags. Typical lifetime of electrolytic capacitors on this board is 10 years; recap recommended for used units.
Application Notes
Found in older DC motor controls for extruders, cranes, paper mills, and elevators. Failure symptoms: drive trips with “trigger circuit fault” or “firing pulse missing.” The 6SY7000-0AC80 can be tested in a bench setup using a 6RA70 regulator and an oscilloscope. When replacing, align the fiber optics using the cable strain relief brackets. After installation, perform a power-on test without line voltage (only 24 V control) to confirm fiber optic activity.
