The CI810B is a fieldbus interface that connects ABB S800 I/O clusters to a PROFIBUS DP master (e.g., ABB AC800M or third-party PLCs). It acts as a slave station, transferring up to 244 bytes of I/O data per scan cycle. The module supports baud rates from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps, automatically detected via bus configuration.
PROFIBUS DP Profile: DP-V0 and DP-V1 (acyclic communication)
Isolation: 500 VDC between bus and I/O logic
Power Supply: 24 VDC (18–30 V), 150 mA typical
Diagnostics: LED indicators for bus status, module health, and external error
Configuration: Via GSD file with any PROFIBUS master tool
The CI810B is mounted on a DIN rail and connects to S800 I/O modules through a backplane bus. It handles cyclic data exchange of digital and analog signals, as well as acyclic parameterization and diagnostics. Up to 12 I/O modules can be attached per interface. For redundancy, two CI810B modules can be used in a redundant pair with a redundant module adapter (RMA).
Status LEDs provide real-time feedback: green for active, red for bus failure, and yellow for configuration error. The module also records last bus errors in an internal buffer, retrievable via the master PLC. For commissioning, ABB’s Device Management Tool (DMT) allows detailed monitoring of node address, baud rate, and data consistency.
Operating temperature: -40°C to +70°C (industrial extended range). Storage: -40°C to +85°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. Protection rating: IP20. Vibration resistance: 2 g (10–150 Hz) according to IEC 60068-2-6.
Commonly used in oil & gas, water treatment, and mining where distributed I/O is required over long distances. The CI810B supports hot-swap of I/O modules without powering down, increasing uptime. Its GSD file is certified by PROFIBUS International, ensuring interoperability with any compliant master.
