The FV223-M2 is part of ALSTOM’s FV series of AC drives, engineered for reliable motor speed control in industrial environments. It utilizes advanced IGBT technology and a 32-bit DSP to deliver smooth torque across the speed range. The drive is available in various power ratings from 0.75 kW to 400 kW, with IP20 or IP54 enclosures. It is designed for easy commissioning and integration into automation systems.
Control Modes: Sensorless vector control (SVC), V/f, and closed-loop vector (with encoder option).
Torque Performance: 150% starting torque, speed accuracy ±0.2% (SVC) or ±0.02% (with encoder).
Built-in PID: Three independent PID controllers for process control (pressure, flow, temperature).
I/O: 6 digital inputs, 3 relay outputs, 2 analog inputs (0-10V, 4-20mA), 2 analog outputs.
Communication: Modbus RTU (standard), optional Profibus, DeviceNet, CANopen, Ethernet.
Protection: Overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, motor overload (I2t), phase loss, and ground fault.
Dynamic Braking: Built-in braking chopper for models up to 22 kW, external optional for higher ratings.
Energy Saving: Automatic energy optimization reduces motor losses at light loads.
Input Voltage: 380-480 V AC ±10%, 50/60 Hz (3-phase).
Output Frequency: 0-500 Hz.
Switching Frequency: 2-16 kHz (programmable).
Overload Capacity: 150% for 60 s, 180% for 2 s.
Operating Temperature: -10°C to +50°C (derating above 40°C).
Cooling: Built-in fans with speed control.
Dimensions: Vary by power; from 250 x 180 x 170 mm to 1200 x 600 x 350 mm.

The drive converts fixed AC input to variable voltage and frequency output using PWM modulation. The sensorless vector control algorithm estimates rotor flux and speed without an encoder, providing high torque at low speeds. The built-in PID controllers can be assigned to regulate process variables directly from the drive, eliminating the need for external controllers. The drive also features flying start, catch-on-the-fly, and auto-tuning of motor parameters.
Pump control for water supply and wastewater.
Fan and blower speed control in HVAC.
Conveyor belts and material handling.
Extruders and mixers in plastics industry.
Centrifuges and compressors.
The drive can be mounted side-by-side or with clearance as specified. Wiring must follow EMC guidelines using shielded cables. Commissioning is facilitated via the keypad with plain text menus or using ALSTOM’s DriveManager software. The software allows oscilloscope functions, parameter cloning, and real-time monitoring.
CE, UL, cUL, and C-Tick marked.
Complies with IEC 61800-3 (EMC) and IEC 61800-5-1 (safety).
Marine approvals (ABS, DNV, GL) available.
