The Basler DECS-250-CGCM-LN2SA1C is a state-of-the-art digital excitation control system engineered to provide unparalleled precision, flexibility, and reliability for synchronous generator applications. This compact yet powerful unit integrates advanced regulation modes, comprehensive protection, and an optional power system stabilizer (PSS) to meet the most demanding grid code requirements and ensure optimal machine performance.

Designed for both new installations and retrofit projects, the DECS-250 offers a complete excitation solution in a single, rugged package. Its advanced pulse-width modulation (PWM) power stage delivers exceptional response to load transients, while the intuitive BESTCOMSPlus software simplifies commissioning and configuration through a user-friendly, drag-and-drop interface.

Superior Regulation and Control Modes

At the heart of the DECS-250 is its ability to maintain stable generator output across a variety of operating conditions. It supports five distinct regulation modes, providing ultimate flexibility to match specific application requirements:

  • Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR): Maintains the generator terminal voltage at a precise setpoint, compensating for load changes and system disturbances to ensure stable voltage supply.

  • Field Current Regulation (FCR): Directly controls the field current, offering a reliable backup mode during AVR operation or for specific testing scenarios.

  • Field Voltage Regulation (FVR): Regulates the field voltage, facilitating generator modeling and validation testing in accordance with industry standards like WECC.

The DECS-250-CGCM-LN2SA1C includes an optional, fully integrated Power System Stabilizer (PSS) compliant with IEEE Std. 421.5 type PSS2A/2B/2C. The PSS uses a dual-input, "integral of accelerating power" design that eliminates unwanted components from the speed signal while avoiding reliance on difficult-to-measure mechanical power signals.   • Voltage Protection: Overexcitation (Volts per Hertz), Generator Undervoltage (27), Generator Overvoltage (59), and Loss of Sensing (LOS).

  • Frequency Protection: Overfrequency (81O) and Underfrequency (81U).

  • Power Protection: Reverse Power (32R) and Loss of Excitation (40Q).

  • Field Protection: Field Overvoltage, Field Overcurrent, Exciter Diode Monitor (EDM) for open/shorted diodes, and Power Input Failure (Loss of PMG).

  • Sync-Check (25) Protection: Supervises the synchronism process to prevent out-of-phase breaker closures.

Additionally, the system includes eight configurable protection elements, allowing users to define custom protection schemes based on a wide range of analog, RTD, and thermocouple inputs from optional expansion modules.

  • AEM-2020 Analog Expansion Module: Adds eight analog inputs, eight RTD inputs, two thermocouple inputs, and four analog outputs.
