Product Overview
The Beckhoff EL1918-2200 is an advanced TwinSAFE logic terminal designed specifically for the EtherCAT I/O system. In modern industrial environments, separating standard machine control from safety control is critical for protecting personnel and equipment. This terminal acts as a distributed safety controller, executing complex safety logic directly within the standard EtherCAT terminal network. By integrating safety functions into the existing communication bus, the EL1918-2200 eliminates the need for dedicated, hardwired safety relays, streamlining cabinet design while significantly elevating the diagnostic capabilities and overall reliability of the machine's safety architecture.
Safety Architecture and Processing
The EL1918-2200 terminal features a redundant, diverse microprocessor architecture that continuously cross-checks internal calculations to guarantee fail-safe operation. It is capable of executing established safety function blocks such as emergency stop, safety door monitoring, two-hand control, and muting. The module evaluates signals from TwinSAFE input terminals over the EtherCAT network via the specialized Fail-Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE) protocol. Upon detecting a hazard, it issues secure commands to TwinSAFE output terminals to bring the machinery to a safe state. Its internal memory allows for the storage of sophisticated safety projects configured via the TwinCAT software platform.

Technical Specifications and Connectivity
Designed with a compact high-density housing, the terminal seamlessly aligns with standard Beckhoff EL-series modules on a standard DIN rail. It supports a vast number of safety connections, making it suitable for both localized cells and extensive plant-wide safety networks. The EL1918-2200 operates efficiently on standard 24 VDC control voltage. Advanced diagnostics are built directly into the hardware; status LEDs provide granular feedback on EtherCAT link status, FSoE connection integrity, and internal module errors, which drastically reduces troubleshooting time during commissioning or safety events.
Compliance and Implementation
This module strictly complies with international safety standards, including IEC 61508 and ISO 13849-1, allowing machine builders to achieve high Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) and Performance Levels (PL). Implementing the Beckhoff EL1918-2200 requires careful planning of the FSoE network topology and rigorous validation of the safety software. Since it is a solid-state electronic device, maintenance is virtually non-existent under normal operating conditions. However, maintaining the physical integrity of the EtherCAT cabling and ensuring the terminal operates within its specified thermal limits are essential for continuous, safe operation.
