Omron C500-PS223-E SYSMAC Power Supply Unit (152157)
The Omron C500-PS223-E, also known as 3G2A5-PS223-E (part number 152157), is a power supply module intended for the C500 series programmable logic controllers. It converts an AC mains input to the DC voltages required by the CPU, I/O units, and backplane of the SYSMAC C500 system.
Electrical Specifications
Input: 100-120 V AC (50/60 Hz), tolerance -15% to +10%, current 1.3 A max. Outputs: +5 V DC ( 8 A, ripple < 50 mVpp), and +24 V DC for field devices ( 0.5 A, non-isolated). The total power capacity is 50 W maximum. Overload and short-circuit protection are provided (auto-reset after fault removal). A green LED indicates output OK. Efficiency: 70% typical at full load. Inrush current limiting circuit built-in.
Mechanical and Environmental
Dimensions: 260 mm (W) x 115 mm (H) x 45 mm (D). Weight: 0.8 kg. Mounting: The power supply occupies the leftmost slot of a C500 rack (backplane). Cooling: natural convection (no fan). Operating temperature: 0°C to 55°C. Storage: -20°C to 75°C. Humidity: 35% to 85% non-condensing. Dielectric strength: 1.5 kV AC between input and output for 1 minute. Insulation resistance: >10 MΩ at 500 V DC. The unit meets UL508 and CSA C22.2 No.142 standards.

Compatibility and Replacement
The C500-PS223-E is designed for the original C500 racks (e.g., C500-BC051, -BC081). It is not compatible with later C200H or CJ series racks. It can be replaced by the C500-PS223-E Rev. 2 (identical form, fitted with newer capacitors). When replacing, ensure the backplane’s power connector pins are clean and not bent. The unit draws no power from the backplane; it supplies power to it.
Maintenance and Installation
Installation: slide the module into the rack’s leftmost guide until the locking lever clicks. Connect AC wires to the top terminals (L, N, ground) using spade terminals (M3.5 screws). The ground terminal must be connected to the panel ground to meet EMC requirements. Periodically check the electrolytic capacitors for bulging or leakage after 5 years of operation. Replacement capacitor kit is available (Omron service). The power supply has no user-serviceable fuses; internal fuse is soldered.
Typical Application
The C500-PS223-E is used in legacy industrial systems such as packaging machines, material handling, and automotive assembly lines. It powers the CPU (C500-CPU01 to -CPU11) and up to 8 I/O modules (e.g., C500-ID212, C500-OD212). The 24 V output can directly power proximity sensors and push buttons, reducing the need for an external power supply.
