Danfoss VLT 3008 Variable Speed Drive from VLT 3000 Series

The Danfoss VLT 3008 is a variable speed drive from the VLT 3000 series of frequency converters, engineered for precise control of three-phase AC motors in industrial applications. The VLT 3000 series drives are designed to convert fixed frequency AC mains power into adjustable voltage and frequency output, enabling variable speed control of pumps, fans, compressors, and other industrial machinery. The VLT 3008 represents a reliable and efficient solution for applications requiring motor speed regulation and energy savings.

Technical Specifications

The Danfoss VLT 3008 operates with factory programmed U/f characteristics providing correct motor voltage-to-frequency ratio for proper motor magnetization. The drive supports both constant torque and variable torque applications. For normal constant torque applications, the constant torque compensated setting is used. For centrifugal pumps and fans, the VT medium setting is appropriate, while heavy start applications use VT Medium CT Start. For synchronous motors, parallel coupled motors, or specialized motors, the constant torque setting is recommended. The drive includes comprehensive parameter configuration for motor output, motor voltage, motor frequency, and automatic motor adaptation.

Control and Setup Features

The VLT 3008 supports start frequency converter operation by applying 24 V DC to terminals 18 and 27, either from terminal 12 or an external 24 V DC voltage source. The drive features programmable minimum and maximum frequency settings, adjustable ramp-up and ramp-down times, and configurable load characteristics. Automatic motor adaptation compensates for motor-specific characteristics when the motor is unloaded or loaded at maximum 50%. The drive includes a brake option parameter for applications requiring dynamic braking. For local operation, the drive supports local reference and local operation modes using front panel controls.

System Integration

The VLT 3008 is part of the comprehensive VLT 3000 product line applicable to VLT 3002 through 3022 models at 200/400/500 V, and VLT 3032 through 3052 at 400/500 V. The drive includes PID controllers, analog I/O options, and serial communication options for integration into automated systems. Variable frequency drives provide precise control of fan and pump speeds, which can result in significant energy savings while reducing wear and tear on equipment, extending lifespan, and minimizing noise pollution. The VLT 3008 is designed for reliable operation in industrial environments with robust construction and comprehensive protection features.

Applications

The Danfoss VLT 3008 is deployed in industrial applications requiring variable speed control of motors. Typical applications include pump control for flow regulation in water treatment and irrigation systems, fan control for air handling and ventilation systems in HVAC applications, and compressor control for industrial gas and refrigeration systems. The drive is also used in conveyor systems in material handling, extruders in plastics processing, and any industrial application where adjustable motor speed provides energy savings and process control benefits compared to fixed-speed operation.
