Pro face GP477R-EG11 HMI: 12.1 Inch Monochrome Touch Screen Operator Interface

The Pro face GP477R-EG11 is a large-format monochrome touch screen HMI from the GP4000 series (also known as GOT series). It features a 12.1-inch diagonal STN LCD with blue mode display, providing excellent visibility even under bright ambient light. The GP477R-EG11 is designed for industrial environments, offering multiple communication ports (RS-232C, RS-422, RS-485) and support for over 100 PLC protocols, including OMRON, Siemens, Mitsubishi, and Allen Bradley. It is used for machine operation, parameter setting, and real-time data monitoring.


Display Specifications

The display is a monochrome STN LCD with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (VGA). Active area measures 247mm x 185mm. The display has a contrast ratio of 20:1 and a brightness of 300 cd/m². Backlight is a CCFL tube with a typical lifetime of 50,000 hours (replaceable). The viewing angle is ±35° horizontally and ±25° vertically. The touch panel is analog resistive, capable of detecting finger or stylus input with a resolution of 1024 x 1024 points. Touch activation force is 0.5 to 1.0 N, with a durability of 1 million touches per point.

Memory and Processing

The GP477R-EG11 is equipped with 4 MB of flash memory for storing screen data, macros, and fonts. It supports up to 500 screens (each up to 64 KB). Additionally, 256 KB of battery-backed SRAM is available for recipe data and log storage. The RTC (real-time clock) is powered by a lithium battery (replaceable, 5-year life). The CPU is a 32-bit RISC processor running at 80 MHz, providing fast screen transitions and real-time data update rates of 50 ms.

Communication and PLC Connectivity

The HMI offers three serial ports: COM1 (RS-232C), COM2 (RS-422/485 selectable), and COM3 (RS-232C). It supports direct connection to most PLCs using manufacturer-specific protocols (e.g., OMRON Host Link, Mitsubishi FX, Siemens PPI, Allen Bradley DF1). The GP477R-EG11 can also act as a pass-through gateway, allowing a PC to program the PLC via the HMI. For printing, a Centronics parallel port is available for hard copy of screens or alarm logs. Optional Ethernet module (GP477-ETH) can be added.


Programming and Software

Screen design is performed using Pro-face’s GP-Pro EX software (version 2.0 or later). The software supports drag-and-drop creation of objects (switches, lamps, numeric displays, trend graphs, alarm lists). It includes a library of over 4000 industrial symbols. The software also supports multi-language text (up to 16 languages) and macro scripts for complex operations. The program is transferred via RS-232C or Ethernet (with optional module). The GP477R-EG11 is also compatible with older GP-PRO/PBIII for Windows.

Environmental and Mechanical Specifications

The front panel is rated IP65 (dust-tight and protected against water jets). The rear is IP20. Operating temperature: 0°C to 50°C, storage -20°C to 60°C. Humidity: 10% to 90% non-condensing. Vibration resistance: 10-57 Hz, 0.075 mm amplitude. Dimensions: 315mm (W) x 240mm (H) x 55mm (D). Panel cutout: 301mm x 227mm. Weight: 2.8 kg. Power supply: 24 VDC (20.4 to 27.6 V), consumption 25 W typical. The unit meets CE, UL, and RoHS standards.


Typical Applications

The GP477R-EG11 is used in machine tool control panels, packaging lines, textile machinery, and printing presses. Its large screen is ideal for displaying complex process diagrams or multiple data points simultaneously. The monochrome display offers high contrast in bright environments, reducing eye strain. The HMI can replace physical pushbuttons, selector switches, and panel meters, reducing wiring and improving flexibility.

Installation and Accessories

Mounting requires a panel cutout and four screws. The GP477R-EG11 is supplied with mounting brackets and a power connector. Optional accessories: protective sheet (GP477-AT01), backlight replacement kit (GP477-BL00), and Ethernet module (GP477-ETH). The mounting clips (if missing) can be ordered as spares (part number GP477-CLIP). The HMI has a 3-year warranty from Pro-face. For legacy systems, this model remains a reliable replacement for failed units.
