HIMA KFD2-STC4-Ex1: High-Integrity Power and Signal Isolation
The Core of 4-20mA Safety Loops
The HIMA KFD2-STC4-Ex1 is a fundamental component for powering and isolating 2-wire transmitters in hazardous industrial zones. It supplies the necessary voltage to the field device while simultaneously receiving the 4-20mA analog signal. By acting as a barrier, it limits the energy available to the field, ensuring that even a short circuit cannot ignite an explosive atmosphere.
SMART and HART Transparency
Modern industrial sensors are "SMART" devices that carry more than just an analog signal. The KFD2-STC4-Ex1 is fully transparent to HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) signals. This allows maintenance teams to perform remote calibration, device configuration, and retrieve digital diagnostics from the field transmitter without needing to enter the hazardous area or disconnect the signal loop.
Technical Efficiency and Load Management
With a low power dissipation design, the KFD2-STC4-Ex1 minimizes heat buildup within the control cabinet. It is capable of driving high-impedance loads, ensuring that the signal remains accurate even over long cable runs. The module's internal circuitry is designed to reject electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is critical for maintaining the accuracy of the safety-instrumented function (SIF).
Fault Detection and Safety Integrity
The KFD2-STC4-Ex1 features a dedicated fault output and a front-panel LED to indicate loop status. It can distinguish between a sensor failure and a wiring fault, providing the HIMA controller with granular data for logic execution. As a SIL 2/3 capable component, it undergoes rigorous testing to meet international safety standards, ensuring long-term reliability in critical infrastructure.

Commonly found in oil refineries and chemical processing plants, this module is the go-to solution for pressure, temperature, and level transmitters. Its robust mechanical construction and gold-plated contacts ensure it operates reliably for decades in demanding industrial environments.
