The Transition Networks J/E-CF-02 is a high-reliability media converter designed to bridge between copper-based and fiber-optic Ethernet networks. This converter enables seamless integration of 10Base-T twisted pair segments with 10Base-FL fiber optic infrastructure, extending network reach and providing electrical isolation between network segments.
The J/E-CF-02 accepts standard 10Base-T signals over RJ-45 copper cabling and converts them to 10Base-FL fiber optic signals transmitted via ST-style fiber connectors. This conversion extends the maximum segment distance from 100 meters on copper to 2 kilometers on multimode fiber, enabling network expansion across large facilities, between buildings, or in electrically noisy environments where fiber provides superior noise immunity.
The converter operates at 10 Mbps Ethernet speed, maintaining compatibility with legacy network equipment while providing the benefits of fiber optic transmission. The fiber interface utilizes 850 nm wavelength multimode optics with ST connectors, suitable for short to medium distance fiber infrastructure. The device supports full-duplex operation on both copper and fiber interfaces, maximizing available bandwidth for connected devices.
Copper Interface: 10Base-T, RJ-45 connector

The J/E-CF-02 is designed for simple plug-and-play installation with no configuration required. It can be powered by an external AC power adapter or via optional chassis mounting in Transition Networks' media converter chassis systems for centralized power and management. The compact form factor allows installation in equipment racks, wiring closets, or directly at the point of use near connected devices.
This media converter is commonly deployed in industrial automation networks where fiber optic cabling is used to connect remote equipment in electrically noisy environments such as manufacturing facilities, power substations, and transportation systems. It also serves in campus network expansions, connecting buildings separated by distances beyond the reach of copper cabling. The J/E-CF-02 is particularly valuable for maintaining legacy 10Base-T equipment in environments where fiber infrastructure provides superior grounding and isolation from lightning-induced surges.
