Lenel LNL-1320 Dual Reader Interface Module
The Lenel LNL-1320 is a dual reader interface (DRI) module designed for professional access control systems. As a core hardware component within the OnGuard security management system, this module serves as a bridge between the system controller and door terminal devices, including card readers, door contacts, and request-to-exit buttons. The LNL-1320 is specifically designed to control two access points or a single door with entry and exit readers, providing flexible and scalable access control for businesses and organizations of all sizes.
Technical Specifications
The Lenel LNL-1320 operates on a flexible power supply ranging from 12V to 24V DC (±10%). The maximum input current is 450 mA, excluding power delivered to connected readers. The module provides filtered and regulated 12V DC power to readers, simplifying installation. Communication with the main controller is established via a 2-wire RS-485 bus, supporting distances of up to 4000 feet per port. The module operates within a temperature range of 0°C to +70°C and can be stored at temperatures from -55°C to +85°C. Physical dimensions are 152mm x 203mm x 25mm, with a board-only weight of approximately 0.23 kg.

Connectivity and Protocol Support
The LNL-1320 supports multiple communication protocols, including Wiegand Data1/Data0, Clock/Data, and the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) via RS-485. OSDP support ensures encrypted and secure communication between readers and the panel, preventing replay attacks and unauthorized access. The module supports up to 16 different card formats and issue codes for both magnetic stripe and Wiegand card formats, providing compatibility with a wide range of credential technologies.
Input and Output Configuration
The Lenel LNL-1320 is equipped with two reader ports, each independently configurable for different reader types and protocols. It features 8 input points that support external tamper detection, door status monitoring, request-to-exit buttons, and auxiliary inputs, all with line supervision capabilities using resistor monitoring. The module includes 6 output relays rated at 5A at 30V DC, used to control electric locks, magnetic locks, or trigger alarms and visual indicators. This rich I/O configuration enables comprehensive door management and integration with other security systems.
Advanced Features
The LNL-1320 includes several advanced features that enhance security system performance. If communication with the main controller is interrupted, the module can perform local processing based on cached access permissions, ensuring continued door operation during network outages. The module supports LED and beeper control for readers, providing visual and audible feedback to users. Online firmware upgrades are supported through the OnGuard software, allowing remote updates without hardware disassembly. Additionally, the module can be used to trigger video surveillance (CCTV) capture or lighting control when access is granted, leveraging its extensive input/output points for integrated security responses.
Applications
The Lenel LNL-1320 is suitable for a wide variety of access control scenarios. In standard office environments, it controls entry and exit points with card readers, electric locks, and door contacts. For high-security areas, the module works with OSDP readers to prevent unauthorized access through cable cutting or replay attacks. The modular design allows security personnel to expand multiple door points within a single control cabinet, making the LNL-1320 a scalable and cost-effective solution for access control systems ranging from small offices to large enterprise facilities.
