EATON MFD-CP8-NT MFD-Titan CPU Module

Overview

The EATON MFD-CP8-NT is the main CPU module for the MFD-Titan series, a multi-function display system that combines operator interface, programmable logic control, and networking capabilities in an integrated platform. This module serves as the processing core for MFD-Titan systems, providing program execution, I/O control, and communication functions. It is designed for 24VDC operation and features cage clamp terminals for secure wiring in industrial environments.

System Integration

The MFD-CP8-NT can be configured in two primary ways: direct configuration where the display unit (MFD-80 or MFD-80-B) plugs directly into the CPU, or remote I/O configuration where the CPU with attached display communicates with remotely located I/O modules via the easy-NET network. This flexibility allows system designers to optimize panel layout and distribute I/O closer to field devices.

Networking Capabilities

The integrated easy-NET interface enables simple and economical networking of MFD-Titan and EASY800 control relays. Up to eight devices can communicate via this interface, sharing data and coordinating control actions. Each device can run its own program or serve as a remote I/O module, creating scalable automation solutions from 12 to over 300 I/O points [citation:7]. Additionally, the MFD-Titan can establish point-to-point communication with EASY800 devices and connect to higher-level fieldbus systems via communication modules.

Applications

The MFD-CP8-NT is ideal for small to medium-sized automation tasks requiring both operator interface and control logic in one device. Typical applications include packaging machinery, conveyor systems, HVAC controls, pump stations, and material handling equipment. Its networking capabilities make it suitable for distributed control applications where multiple machines or process sections need coordination.

Programming and Configuration

The MFD-CP8-NT is programmed using Eaton's easySoft software, which supports ladder diagram and function block diagram programming. The integrated display module provides on-site programming and monitoring capabilities, allowing operators to view and modify parameters without external tools. The CPU supports multiple password levels for security and includes message indication functions for operator guidance.

The MFD-CP8-NT is CE marked, RoHS compliant, and designed to meet industrial standards for immunity and emissions. It is suitable for installation in industrial control panels and environments requiring reliable operation.
