Metso D201776 ACN PO DC Control Server - Industrial Process Automation and Condition Monitoring Core Computing Platform

Product positioning and platform background

The D201776 ACN PO DC PLC control server computer launched by Metso Automation Company is the core controller node in the Metso DNA (Distributed Network Automation) system. This model belongs to the ACN MR series of the ACN (Advanced Controller Node) controller family, specifically designed for centralized, distributed, and embedded automation applications. It can operate as an independent PLC control server or seamlessly integrate into the complete Metso DNA system, sharing network resources with operation stations, historical databases, and engineering tools.

The ACN MR controller, with its compact size, powerful processing capability, and industrial grade reliability, has become the preferred platform for state monitoring and process control in the metal ore selection, pulp and paper, power energy, and metallurgical industries. As the standard ordering model for this series, D201776 provides complete controller hardware and basic software authorization, suitable for critical operating conditions that require fast control response and high availability.


Hardware architecture and technical specifications

The D201776 ACN PO DC control server adopts a rail type metal shell, fanless and hard disk free design, and relies entirely on passive cooling by heat sinks to eliminate the potential for faults caused by rotating components. The overall size of the machine is only 40 × 125 × 95 mm (width × height × depth), with a weight of 1100 g and a protection level of IP20. The main technical specifications are as follows:

Processor: Intel Atom 1.1 GHz

Memory: 512 MB RAM

Storage: 2 GB removable SD card (used for system startup, real-time operating system, and application loading)

Ethernet interface: 5 10/100Base-T ports (including 1 1000Base-T Gigabit port), used for communication between Metso DNA nodes, ACN I/O bus communication, and Modbus/TCP protocols.

Redundancy capability: Supports 1:1 controller redundancy, redundant DNA Ethernet, and redundant ACN I/O fieldbus

Control cycle: minimum 5 ms, typical application 100-1000 ms, maximum 64 s

Power supply: 18~36 VDC, power consumption 10 W

Working temperature: 0~+70 ° C (storage temperature -20~+70 ° C)

Environmental adaptability: Optional models with paint layer meet G3 environmental specifications (ISA-71.04) and are suitable for industrial sites with high corrosive gases

The controller also offers two USB ports, as well as a PROFIBUS DP interface unit and a serial interface unit under development (launched after 2013). Its I/O expansion capability can be achieved by connecting ACN I/O M80 or M120 series modules, and typical systems support 250-2000 I/O channels.

Software and Engineering Characteristics

D201776 runs a real-time operating system (RTOS) and loads the Metso DNA Process Controller software. The engineering configuration adopts functional block CAD engineering tools to design control logic, sequence control, and interface applications in the form of functional block diagrams (FBD). All functional block diagrams are saved in the project server of the public database and serve as executable documents for the runtime environment, ensuring that the documents are always synchronized with the actual program.

The control library provides a full range of functional blocks from basic process control to advanced quality, drive, and optimization control, and comes standard with fuzzy logic (Fuzzy), model predictive control (MPC), and programmable functional blocks. In addition, the controller supports seamless integration with Sensodec 6S and Metso DNA systems, and can directly collect vibration and speed signals from high-speed analog input units such as AIF8V/AIF8T for mechanical condition monitoring (such as bearing wear, gear meshing, imbalance and other fault diagnosis).


System integration and reliability advantages

Redundancy and high availability

D201776 supports 1:1 hot standby redundancy for controllers. When the main controller fails, the backup controller automatically takes over, and the switching process has no impact on on-site I/O and upper level communication. Simultaneously supporting redundant DNA Ethernet networks, any network interruption will not result in data loss.

Design without moving parts

The fanless and hard disk free structure allows it to have a much longer average time between failures than traditional industrial PCs, making it particularly suitable for installation near mining crushers, ball mills, vibrating screens, and other equipment with high vibration and dust.

Distributed deployment capability

Due to its compact size, D201776 can be directly installed on DIN rails inside the on-site cabinet, arranged in the same cabinet as ACN I/O modules, greatly saving control room space and wiring costs. By connecting to the upper level monitoring network via 100 Mbit/s Ethernet, operators can view the vibration characteristic values, alarm status, and historical trends of rotating machinery in real-time at the control room workstation.

Mineral processing: state monitoring and process control of AG/SAG ball mills, HPGR high-pressure roller mills, crushers, and vibrating screens

Pulp and paper making: STA analysis of paper machine rollers, metal belt monitoring, wool cloth analysis, and lubrication cycle monitoring

Power industry: online vibration protection for steam turbines, fans, and feedwater pumps (compliant with API670 standard)

Metallurgical rolling: early warning of faults in the main drive, gearbox, and motor bearings of the rolling mill
