NI SCXI-1346 Shielded Multi-Chassis Cable Adapter
The National Instruments SCXI-1346 is a shielded multi-chassis cable adapter that connects a DAQ device to SCXI modules. It serves as the physical interface between a 68-pin E Series, M Series, or X Series multifunction DAQ board and the SCXI chassis backplane, enabling signal routing between the DAQ device and SCXI signal conditioning modules. The adapter also includes chassis address switches for configuring multi-chassis SCXI systems.

Multi-Chassis SCXI System Configuration
The SCXI-1346 enables the construction of large SCXI systems with multiple chassis. Each SCXI-1346 adapter is attached to the rear of an SCXI chassis and connected via a 68-pin shielded cable to the DAQ device. The adapter includes a 5-position DIP switch that assigns a unique chassis ID (address) to each chassis in the system. When configuring the system in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), the software uses these chassis IDs to communicate with the correct chassis. Each SCXI-1346 translates the 68-pin DAQ connector signals to a 50-pin breakout connector that interfaces with SCXI modules in the chassis.
Installation and Compatibility
The adapter is installed on the rear panel of an SCXI chassis using the provided screws. A shielded 68-pin cable (such as the SHC68-68-EPM) connects the DAQ device to the SCXI-1346. The adapter is compatible with all SCXI modules that accept standard 50-pin connectors. It supports E Series, M Series, and X Series DAQ devices, making it suitable for both legacy and modern NI DAQ hardware. The SCXI-1346 is essential for systems requiring more than one SCXI chassis or where the DAQ device is located at a distance from the SCXI chassis.
