The Omron CQM1-TC101 is a special I/O module for the CQM1 programmable controller family. It provides two independent temperature control loops, each with thermocouple input and relay output for heating/cooling control. The module performs PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) calculation on board, offloading the CPU from continuous temperature regulation tasks.
Sensor type: Thermocouple, selectable via DIP switches: K, J, T, R, S, B, E, N. Input range depends on type (e.g., K: -200°C to 1300°C). Resolution: 0.1°C for most ranges. Sampling period: 500 ms per channel. Cold junction compensation (CJC) built-in, accuracy ±0.5°C. Input impedance: >1 MΩ. The module uses screw terminals for sensor wiring.
Two Form A relay outputs (SPST, 250V AC, 2A resistive) per loop. Control method: ON/OFF or 2-PID. Auto-tuning (AT) function automatically calculates PID constants. Heating/cooling control with adjustable output period (1-99 seconds). Manual output override possible. The module also supports alarm outputs: two alarms per loop (high, low, deviation, etc.) – these are software internal and can be read by the CPU.
The CQM1-TC101 occupies one slot in a CQM1 rack. Data exchange with CPU via dedicated I/O words: each channel uses 2 input words (temperature reading, status) and 1 output word (setpoint, PID parameters, or manual control). The module can be programmed using standard CQM1 ladder instructions: @PID, @TEMP, etc., but most parameters are set via DM area configuration using CX-Programmer software.
Setup is performed through front panel DIP switches or using CX-Programmer’s I/O table. Key parameters: sensor type, temperature unit (°C/°F), control mode (ON/OFF or PID), setpoint (SP), proportional band (P), integral time (I), derivative time (D), and alarm setpoints. The module stores parameters in EEPROM (non-volatile). Up to 8 temperature modules can be installed in a single CQM1 system.
Front LEDs: POWER (green), RUN (green), ERR (red) for module fault, and two RDY (ready) LEDs per loop. Diagnostic functions: sensor burnout detection (open circuit) triggers alarm and turns off output. The module also detects input range errors, CJC failure, and EEPROM checksum error. Status bits are readable by CPU program.

Power consumption from backplane: 200 mA at 5V DC. Operating temperature: 0-55°C. Storage: -20-75°C. Humidity: 10-90% non-condensing. Vibration: 2g at 10-57Hz. Dimensions: 100 x 80 x 55 mm. Weight: 180g. The module is IP20 rated (for inside control panel).
Typical for plastic injection molding machines, packaging heat sealers, drying ovens, environmental chambers, and food processing equipment. The CQM1-TC101 is suited for systems requiring up to 16 temperature loops (with multiple modules).
Works with all CQM1 CPUs (CQM1-CPU11, -21, -41, -42, etc.). Also compatible with CQM1H series (with adapter). Not compatible with CJ or CP series. For new installations, Omron recommends CP1W-TS or CJ1W-TC series.
Factory calibrated; field calibration is possible using front panel potentiometer (offset adjustment). Re-calibration interval recommended every 2 years. No other maintenance required.
The Omron CQM1-TC101 provides reliable, standalone PID temperature control within the CQM1 PLC system. It reduces CPU load and simplifies wiring for multi-zone applications.
