The Omron FQM1 series is a flexible motion controller system designed for high-speed, multi-axis coordinated motion control. The typical set comprises the FQM1S-MC233 CPU unit, the FQM1-CM02 power supply/communication module, and the FQM1-MMP22 I/O expansion module. Advanced Electronic Cam and Flying Cut Functions

The FQM1 system excels in applications requiring master-slave synchronization. The electronic cam function allows the controller to create cam profiles in software, eliminating mechanical cams and providing flexible changeover. The flying cut capability synchronizes a cutter to a continuously moving material, with precise registration using encoder feedback. The system also supports electronic gearing, where slave axes follow a master encoder ratio.

Fast Communication and High-Speed Interrupts

The MC233 communicates with I/O modules via a high-speed data link (cycle time as low as 0.5 ms). The system also supports high-speed interrupts (20 µs response) for input triggers, making it suitable for high-production-rate machinery.

Programming Environment

Configuration and programming are done using Omron’s CX-One software (CX-Motion Pro). The controller supports motion-specific commands (MOVEL, CAM, GEAR) along with standard PLC ladder logic for machine sequencing. Up to 8 cam profiles can be stored and switched on the fly.
