The Pilz 680003 is a modular safety relay system consisting of a PNOZ s4 base unit (4869L4) and a PNOZ s7 expansion module (4753L4). This combination allows users to monitor one or more safety functions (emergency stop, guard door, two-hand control) and provide up to six safety relay outputs. The modular design permits expansion of safety outputs without the need for additional evaluation units.
Supply Voltage: 24 V DC (21.6-26.4 V)
Safety Outputs: 4 NO (forced-guided)
Auxiliary Outputs: 2 NC (non-safety)
Inputs: 2 channels for E-stop/guard door; also supports two-hand control
Response Time:<35 ms
Power Consumption: 3.5 W
Dimensions: 100 × 45 × 120 mm
Safety Outputs: 2 NO (forced-guided)
Auxiliary Outputs: 1 NC
Expansion Connection: Via ribbon cable to base unit
Dimensions: 100 × 45 × 120 mm
Total Safety Contacts: 6 NO
Total Auxiliary Contacts: 2 NC (base) + 1 NC (expansion)
Safety Integrity: PL e (EN ISO 13849-1), SIL CL (IEC 61508)
Operating Temperature: -10°C to +55°C
Certifications: CE, UL, TÜV, BG, CCC

The base unit (s4) evaluates the safety input signals and controls its own outputs as well as the expansion module (s7) via a dedicated ribbon cable. The expansion module mirrors the state of the base unit's safety outputs, effectively providing additional contacts. This allows the system to safely disconnect multiple machine sections or to increase the number of contacts for a single hazard.
This modular safety relay set is ideal for machines with multiple safety zones or where a large number of safety contacts are required, such as large presses, packaging lines, and automated assembly systems. It reduces the number of separate safety relays needed, simplifying wiring and troubleshooting.
