OMRON R88M-H1K130 Servo Motor: 1kW AC Servo for SmartStep 2 Systems

The OMRON R88M-H1K130 is a high-performance AC servo motor belonging to the SmartStep 2 series. Rated at 1 kW (1000W), this motor is designed to be paired with OMRON R88D servo drives (e.g., R88D-H310G). It features a 20-bit incremental encoder (1,048,576 pulses/revolution) for ultra-fine positioning, a rated speed of 3000 rpm, and a compact, flat design that reduces overall machine size. The R88M-H1K130 is ideal for applications requiring high torque density, fast acceleration, and precise motion control, such as pick-and-place machines, CNC routers, and automated assembly lines.

Encoder and Feedback System

The integrated 20-bit incremental encoder provides exceptional position resolution, allowing smooth motion at low speeds and precise stop accuracy. The encoder outputs A, B, and Z phases (line driver RS-422) with a maximum response frequency of 2 MHz. The motor also includes a built-in thermistor for overtemperature protection (connected to the drive). The encoder cable length can be up to 20 meters with proper shielding. Optionally, an absolute encoder version (17-bit or 20-bit) is available as a different model, but the R88M-H1K130 comes standard with incremental feedback.

Electrical Characteristics

The R88M-H1K130 is a three-phase AC servo motor with a rated voltage of 200-240 VAC (from the drive). Rated current is 5.2 A RMS, and maximum current is 15.6 A RMS. The motor constant (KT) is 0.62 Nm/A. Winding resistance is 0.6 Ω per phase (line-to-line), and inductance is 4.2 mH. The motor complies with insulation resistance of 100 MΩ (500 VDC) and dielectric strength of 1500 VAC for 1 minute. The motor frame size is 130mm square flange (metric standard).

Environmental and Safety Standards

Operating ambient temperature: 0°C to 40°C (non-freezing), storage -20°C to 60°C. Humidity: 20% to 90% non-condensing. Vibration resistance: 24.5 m/s² (2.5G) at 10 to 500 Hz. Impact resistance: 49 m/s² (5G). The motor is rated IP67 (completely dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion) when used with appropriate oil seals and connectors. It meets UL 1004, CE, and RoHS standards. The motor housing is aluminum alloy with a black paint finish.

Integration with OMRON Drives

The R88M-H1K130 is optimized for use with OMRON’s R88D-H series drives (such as R88D-H310G). Connection is via a standard power cable (4-pin) and encoder cable (12-pin, MDR type). The drive automatically recognizes motor parameters (via encoder data) when using the SmartStep 2 series, eliminating manual setup. The combination provides a closed-loop system with autotuning, vibration suppression, and notch filters. For multi-axis systems, up to 16 motors can be connected via a shared DC bus (depending on drive model).


Typical Applications

Typical uses include: indexing tables in packaging machinery, vertical axis in pick-and-place robots, conveyor drives requiring precise speed regulation, and CNC tool changers. The high torque-to-inertia ratio (approximately 46,000 rad/s²) allows rapid acceleration and deceleration, reducing cycle times. The IP67 rating makes it suitable for washdown environments in food processing or for machine tool coolant exposure. For applications requiring holding brake, an optional electromagnetic brake (24 VDC, 7.2 Nm holding torque) is available (model suffix -B).

Installation and Maintenance

Mounting is via four M8 threaded holes on the front flange (130mm pitch circle). Ensure proper alignment to avoid shaft stress. The motor should be connected to the drive using shielded cables, with the shield grounded at both ends for EMI reduction. Grease replenishment is not required during normal life (approx. 20,000 hours). The motor surface temperature can reach up to 90°C under full load; provide adequate ventilation. OMRON recommends periodic inspection of cable connections and shaft sealing. The motor is backed by a 1-year warranty from date of purchase.
