The REER EOS2E 1053 and EOS2R 1053 form a Type 2 safety light curtain system designed for machine guarding and hazardous area protection. The EOS2E 1053 is the emitter unit, and the EOS2R 1053 is the receiver unit. Together, they create an infrared light barrier that detects the presence of objects or personnel within the protected zone. When the light beam is interrupted, the system sends a stop signal to the machine control, preventing hazardous movement. This system is certified to Type 2 (IEC 61496-1/2), SIL1 (IEC 61508), and PL c (ISO 13849-1). It is suitable for applications requiring basic to moderate safety protection, such as access guarding, perimeter protection, and point-of-operation guarding.
Type: Type 2 safety light curtain. Protection height: 1053 mm (emitter/receiver length). Resolution: 30 mm (depending on model). Range: up to 15 meters. Response time: 8-15 ms (depending on height). Supply voltage: 24 V DC ±20%, consumption: 150 mA. Outputs: 2 OSSD (PNP) outputs, 1 auxiliary output. Connection: M12 connectors (4-pin for emitter, 5-pin for receiver). Protection: IP65 (suitable for industrial environments). Operating temperature: 0°C to 55°C. Storage: -20°C to 70°C. Certifications: TÜV, CE, UL. The system includes auto-test and cyclic self-diagnostic functions.
Type 2 safety light curtain (IEC 61496-1/2)
SIL1 / PL c certified for basic safety applications
Protection height 1053 mm, range up to 15 m
30 mm resolution for finger/hand detection (model dependent)
IP65 protection for harsh industrial environments
OSSD outputs for direct connection to safety relays/PLCs
Built-in diagnostic LEDs for alignment and status
Compact and robust aluminum housing
The emitter (EOS2E) transmits a pulsed infrared light beam to the receiver (EOS2R). If any beam is blocked, the receiver immediately switches its OSSD outputs to the OFF state, signaling the machine control to stop. The system performs a self-test at power-up and continuously monitors its internal circuitry. The OSSD outputs are monitored for short circuits and cross faults. The auxiliary output provides a status signal (e.g., OSSD ON/OFF, alignment status) to a PLC or indicator light.
The EOS2 system is used for access guarding on machinery (preventing entry during machine cycle), perimeter protection around hazardous areas, point-of-operation guarding on presses and cutting machines, robot cell protection, and conveyor systems. It is suitable for applications where risk assessment specifies Type 2/SIL1/PL c.
Mount the emitter and receiver on opposite sides of the protected zone, ensuring they are aligned and facing each other. The distance between the units should not exceed 15 m. Connect 24 V DC power to both units. Connect the OSSD outputs to a safety relay or PLC input (PNP). The receiver includes alignment LEDs (green = good alignment, red = misalignment). The housing is IP65 rated, allowing installation in dusty or wet environments.
Clean the front windows regularly with a soft cloth. The receiver's diagnostic LEDs indicate: POWER (green), OSSD ON (yellow), ALIGNMENT (red/green). If the OSSD outputs are off, check for beam interruption or misalignment. The system has no user-serviceable parts; replace the unit if faulty.
The REER EOS2E 1053 and EOS2R 1053 safety light curtain provide reliable, cost-effective machine guarding for applications requiring Type 2 safety protection. Their compact design, IP65 rating, and easy installation make them suitable for a wide range of industrial safety applications.
