Yaskawa SGDH‑04AE‑OY Sigma II 200V 400W Servo Driver

The Yaskawa SGDH‑04AE‑OY is a compact, high‑performance AC servo amplifier from the Sigma II series, rated for 400 W continuous output at 200 V input. Designed to drive Yaskawa’s SGMAH, SGMGH, or SGMPS series servo motors, this driver delivers precise position, speed, and torque control for industrial automation. The firmware version 35942 represents the latest revision available for this model, ensuring compatibility and enhanced functionality.

Electrical Specifications

Input power: single‑phase or three‑phase 200‑230 V AC ±10%, 50/60 Hz. Rated current: 2.6 A (single‑phase) / 1.8 A (three‑phase). Output capacity: 400 W, with a maximum current of 8.8 A for 3 seconds. The driver employs PWM control with a switching frequency of 12 kHz, minimising motor audible noise. Built‑in dynamic braking and regenerative circuit handle deceleration energy without external resistors for most applications.


Control Modes and Performance

The SGDH‑04AE‑OY supports three primary control modes: position, speed, and torque. Position mode accepts up to 500 kpps input from a host controller (line driver) or 200 kpps from open collector. Speed control range is 1:5000 with ±0.01% stability. Torque control accuracy is ±2% of rated torque. The driver features a 13‑bit incremental encoder interface (2048 P/R quadruple) and also supports absolute encoders. The velocity frequency response is 400 Hz, enabling high‑gain tuning for stiff mechanical systems.

Advanced Tuning and Auto‑tuning

Sigma II drivers incorporate real‑time auto‑tuning that automatically sets position loop gain, speed loop gain, and filter parameters based on detected load inertia. The inertia ratio can be automatically measured during operation. Vibration suppression filters (up to four notch filters) reduce mechanical resonance. Gain switching allows different tuning values during acceleration, constant speed, and stop conditions, optimising settling time.

I/O and Communication

The driver provides: 6 digital inputs (servo ON, alarm reset, gain select, forward/reverse run inhibit, etc.) and 4 digital outputs (servo ready, alarm, positioning completion, etc.). Analog inputs: ±10 V for speed/torque reference. Analog outputs: monitor for speed, torque, or current (0‑10 V). Communication is via RS‑232C or RS‑422 (dedicated to the host controller). An optional fieldbus module (DeviceNet, Profibus, or MECHATROLINK) can be added via the CN6 connector.

Protection and Safety

Protective functions include overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload (electronic thermal), encoder error, regenerative error, and overtravel. The driver complies with EN 61800‑3 (EMC) and EN 61800‑5‑1 (safety). The built‑in dynamic brake engages automatically when servo off or alarm occurs. Short‑circuit protection on motor output is provided. The operating ambient temperature is 0‑55 °C, with storage at -20‑85 °C.


Dimensions and Mounting

Width: 68 mm, height: 130 mm, depth: 150 mm (excluding connectors). Weight approximately 1.2 kg. The driver is designed for DIN rail or panel mounting. Airflow clearance of 50 mm top and bottom is required. The heatsink fan is maintenance‑free for 50,000 hours. Connectors are screw‑type for power and spring‑type for control signals.

Applications

The SGDH‑04AE‑OY is widely used in small pick‑and‑place robots, CNC tool changers, semiconductor handlers, medical pumps, and labelling machines. Its combination of 400 W power, fast response, and auto‑tuning makes it ideal for applications requiring precise positioning at moderate torques.
