ADLINK NuPRO-775 Industrial Motherboard Installation and BIOS Configuration Detailed Explanation

In the fields of industrial control, automation testing, and embedded computing, the semi long Single Board Computer (SBC) is highly favored due to its high reliability, long lifecycle, and compact mechanical structure. The NuPRO-775 series launched by ADLINK is precisely such an industrial motherboard based on the Socket-370 processor slot and using the Intel i82810 chipset. It supports processors such as Intel Celeron 300-533MHz and Pentium III 500E/550E, and is suitable for harsh industrial environments. Although this model is already a mature product, it is still common in many old production line upgrades and maintenance. Mastering its installation, BIOS tuning, and driver configuration methods is of practical significance for on-site engineers. This article is based on the official user manual and provides a systematic operation guide from the dimensions of hardware layout, jumper settings, memory matching, BIOS fine tuning, onboard VGA and LAN driver installation, as well as hardware monitoring and watchdog configuration.

Product Overview and Open Box Inspection

NuPRO-775 is a half size (185mm × 122mm) PCI industrial motherboard, with its core advantages being:

Supports Intel Celeron and Pentium III processors (66/100 MHz front-end bus)

Single 168 pin DIMM slot, maximum 256MB PC-100 SDRAM

Integrated Intel i82810 graphics controller (AGP 2X, supports up to 1600 x) 1200@85Hz )

Onboard Intel 82559 10/100Mbps Ethernet controller, supporting Wake On LAN

Winbond W83627HF Super I/O, Integrated hardware monitoring (temperature, voltage, fan speed)

Programmable watchdog timer (0-255 seconds or minutes)

Support ATX power management, modem wake-up ACPI

The standard unboxing accessories include: motherboard body, user manual, IDE cable, floppy drive cable, dual serial and parallel port brackets, optional USB cable, and a CD containing hardware configuration INF files, VGA driver, LAN driver, and hardware monitoring tools.

Key points for installing CPU and memory

1. CPU installation steps

The Socket-370 slot has a foolproof notch. When installing, make sure that the notch of the CPU is aligned with the protrusion on the inside of the slot, and gently insert it to lock the buckle. Key precautions: The CPU heat sink must be in full contact with the top surface of the CPU and coated with thermal grease, otherwise it may cause overheating, crashes, or instability. The manual emphasizes that if the heat dissipation is poor, the system may hang, and it is necessary to check the contact surface.

2. Memory selection and insertion

The motherboard only provides one 168 pin DIMM slot and supports PC-100 non buffered SDRAM of 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, and 256MB. The total capacity limit is 256MB. It is recommended to use a strip that complies with the PC-100 specification. If PC-133 is used, it may run at a lower frequency, but stability needs to be tested.

3. Frequency jumper settings (JP1, JP2)

This is the most error prone step in installation. The manual provides the corresponding CPU frequency and SDRAM frequency for jumper combinations:

CPU frequency SDRAM frequency JP1 JP2

66 MHz 100 MHz 1-2 2-3

100 MHz 100 MHz 2-3 2-3

66/100 auto 100 3-4 2-3

Preserve the future 1-2

Attention: JP3 is the power button jumper, JP4 is the standby power connector (used for Wake On LAN and modem wake-up, requiring 5VSB from ATX power supply).

Detailed explanation of onboard connectors

The motherboard provides a variety of I/O interfaces, and the following are commonly used connectors and their pin definitions (partially excerpted):

CN1 (floppy drive): 34 pin pin, supports 360KB/720KB/1.2MB/1.44MB/2.88MB floppy drives, pin 1 is GND, pay attention to the direction.

CN2/CN3 (IDE): Two EIDE interfaces, supporting PIO Mode 3/4 and Ultra DMA/66, with a maximum of 4 devices. Note that the master and slave disks are set through hard disk jumpers.

CN4 (COM2), CN5 (COM1): 10 pin pin pin, standard RS-232 level. Pin definitions include DCD, RXD, TXD, DTR, GND, DSR, RTS, CTS, RI, NC. Actual use requires a DB9 adapter board.

CN9 (parallel port): 25 pin pin pin, supports SPP/ECP/EPP mode, ESD protection up to 4KV.

CN13 (PS/2 Mouse), CN10 (PS/2 Keyboard): 6-pin Mini DIN, keyboard data/clock, mouse data/clock.

CN14(VGA):15-pin D-sub, Output red, green, blue, and row field synchronization.

CN15 (RJ45): Standard Ethernet interface with LED indicator light (onboard LED1 displays link and speed).

CN6(Modem Ring-in):4-pin, Used for external modem wake-up.

CN8 (USB): Dual port pin, compatible with USB 1.1, each port has overcurrent protection.

CN11 (system temperature detection): 2-pin, can be connected to an external thermal sensor.

FN1 (CPU fan): 3-pin, providing+12V, GND, and speed detection.

When installing, be sure to pay attention to the direction of the wiring, usually the red wire corresponds to pin 1. Each connector in the manual has a clear pin table to avoid damage caused by reverse connection.
