Product Overview
The National Instruments NI 9239 with BNC is a four channel voltage input module for CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems. It is designed for high resolution measurement of dynamic and static voltage signals. The module provides 24 bit resolution, a plus or minus 10 V input range, and a maximum sampling rate of 50 kS/s per channel. The BNC version provides convenient shielded connections for signal sources.
The NI 9239 is part of the NI C Series platform, which offers modular signal conditioning for data acquisition. The module is used in sound and vibration related voltage measurements, power quality analysis, sensor characterization, and general dynamic signal acquisition where high resolution and wide input range are required.
Analog Input Performance
The NI 9239 provides four analog input channels with 24 bit resolution. The plus or minus 10 V input range covers a wide variety of sensor outputs and signal levels. High resolution supports measurement of small signal changes even when the overall signal amplitude is large, which is useful in spectral analysis and precision waveform capture.
The module uses low noise input circuitry and careful analog design to preserve signal quality. Engineers can configure input ranges, sampling rates, and triggering through NI-DAQmx software. The module is intended for voltage signals within its specified input limits and should be protected from overvoltage in the test setup.
Simultaneous Sampling and Filtering
The NI 9239 samples all input channels simultaneously. Simultaneous sampling preserves phase relationships between channels, which is important in power measurement, vibration analysis, acoustic measurement, and multi sensor dynamic testing. When channels are sampled at the same instant, time and phase comparisons between signals remain valid.
The module includes anti alias filtering to support accurate frequency domain analysis. Anti alias filters remove high frequency content that could fold back into the measured band and distort spectral results. Combined with 24 bit resolution, the filtering makes the module suitable for fast Fourier transform analysis, harmonic measurement, and order analysis in rotating machinery test.
BNC Connectivity
The BNC version of the NI 9239 provides shielded coaxial connections for each analog input. BNC connectors are common in laboratory instruments, sensors, and signal sources, and they support quick connection with low noise pickup. This is useful when the module is used with signal generators, accelerometer conditioners, current probes, and other equipment that provides BNC outputs.
Proper cabling and grounding are important for high resolution measurements. Engineers should use quality coaxial cables, avoid long unshielded leads, and confirm that signal grounds are compatible with the module input architecture. Careful cable routing away from power wiring helps maintain measurement accuracy.
Software and System Integration
The NI 9239 is supported by NI-DAQmx driver software. It can be programmed with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, and other NI-DAQmx compatible development environments. Engineers can configure channels, sampling rates, input ranges, and triggering through standard software tools. The module can also use TEDS with compatible sensors to simplify identification and setup.
In a CompactDAQ system, the NI 9239 is used for portable and bench top dynamic signal measurement. In a CompactRIO system, it can be part of an embedded monitoring system that captures voltage waveforms and processes them in real time. The module supports synchronization with other C Series modules so voltage data can be correlated with current, temperature, strain, and digital signals.
