ADLINK NuPRO-E340 PICMG 1.3 Industrial Motherboard Deployment and BIOS Optimization Complete Guide

In the fields of industrial visual inspection, high-speed data acquisition, and high-end motion control, the PICMG 1.3 standard system motherboard (SHB) is gradually replacing the traditional PICMG 1.0 platform with its PCIe x16 high bandwidth expansion capability and native support for the latest peripheral interfaces. ADLINK's NuPRO-E340 full-size single board computer, equipped with second-generation Intel ®  Core ™  I7/i5/i3 processors (LGA1155) and Intel ®  The Q67 Express chipset not only provides powerful computing performance, but also introduces USB 3.0, SATA 6 Gb/s, Intel, and more ®  AMT 7.0 remote management and TPM 1.2 hardware security module make it an ideal choice for demanding industrial automation and intelligent vision systems. This article will comprehensively analyze the hardware characteristics, key component installation, BIOS deep tuning, system resource allocation, and practical application of watchdog and remote management functions of the board from the perspective of actual engineering deployment, providing engineers with a full process technical reference from power on to stable operation.


Differences in Product Positioning and Core Architecture

The NuPRO-E340 follows the PICMG 1.3 standard and provides PCIe x16, PCIe x4, and traditional 32-bit/33MHz PCI buses through the Gold Finger, compatible with industrial backboards that support PCIe expansion (such as ADLINK EBP-13E2). Compared with the NuPRO-A40H of the same series PICMG 1.0, the core advantages of E340 are:

Chipset upgrade: using Intel ®  Q67 PCH, Support Intel ®  Active Management Technology 7.0(AMT), Implement out of band remote management;

Storage and transmission acceleration: onboard 2 SATA 6 Gb/s interfaces (blue) and 2 USB 3.0 rear ports to meet high-speed data throughput requirements;

Scalability: PCIe x16 slots (for high-performance graphics or capture cards), PCIe x4, and an additional 4 USB 2.0 and 2 SATA 3 Gb/s can be accessed through the backplane;

Security Enhancement: The optional Infineon SLB 9635 TT 1.2 TPM chip supports hardware level key storage and platform integrity verification.

The processor supports the second-generation Core ™  Series (32nm, such as i7-2600, i5-2400, i3-2120, Pentium) ®  G850), Integrated dual channel DDR3 1066/1333 MHz memory controller (up to 8GB) and Intel ®  HD Graphics。 The chipset is connected to the CPU through DMI (Direct Media Interface) and FDI (Flexible Display Interface), providing display output (rear VGA+onboard DVI-D pin).


Key points of mechanical dimensions and I/O layout

The size of the board meets the standard PICMG 1.3 full-length specification (see the mechanical diagram in the manual for details), and attention should be paid to aligning the fixing holes with the backplate during installation. The rear panel interface includes:

Dual RJ-45 (LAN1 supports AMT, LAN2 is standard gigabit);

VGA port (DB-15);

2 USB 3.0 (blue, can only be used after the operating system loads the driver, does not support DOS/BIOS booting);

PS/2 keyboard/mouse (onboard pin, requires bracket).

Distribution of main connectors inside the board (see layout diagram):

Memory slots: DIMM1/DIMM2, supporting dual channels;

SATA: CN2/CN4 (blue, 6Gb/s), CN5/CN7 (black, 3Gb/s);

USB 2.0: CN3/CN6/CN8/X1 four sets of pins, a total of 8 ports;

Serial ports: CN10 (COM1, RS-232/422/485/485+), CN11~CN16 (COM2~COM6, pure RS-232);

DVI-D: CN17 pin, matched with optional bracket;

Parallel port: CN15, standard 25 pin;

HD Audio:CN9, Used for DB-Audio2 daughter cards;

System panel: CN23, integrated power/reset/HDD LED/speaker/keyboard lock and other control signals;

Power supply: CN24 (4-pin ATX 12V), must be connected to+12V to start;

Fans: FAN1 (CPU, supports PWM speed regulation), FAN2 (system, fixed full speed).


Practical installation of core components

1. CPU installation (LGA1155)

The operation process is exactly the same as NuPRO-A40H: disconnect the power, wear an anti-static wristband, unlock the lever, remove the protective cover, align the CPU golden triangle with the Pin1 symbol of the socket, place it vertically (foolproof design), close the cover and lock it. It is strictly prohibited to touch the socket spring to avoid deformation and poor contact.

2. Heat sink and fan

The CPU must be equipped with an active heat sink, the FAN1 interface is 4-pin PWM, and supports BIOS intelligent speed regulation (see the hardware monitoring section later). The application of thermal conductive silicone grease should be evenly thin, and the fixing screws should be gradually tightened diagonally to prevent crushing the core.

3. Memory installation

Supports 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB non ECC buffered DDR3 1333/1066 modules, with a maximum total capacity of 8GB (4GB per module). To achieve optimal dual channel performance, it is recommended that the capacity, rate, and CAS delay of both channels be consistent. During installation, first bend the buckle outward and insert it vertically into the anti mistake notch until the buckle automatically returns to its original position.
