KEBA KeConnect C5: Innovative Application of Modular IO Systems in Industrial Automation

Industrial automation systems are developing towards higher integration, greater flexibility, and better performance. As a leading enterprise in the field of automation, KEBA's KeConnect C5 series IO module system is an outstanding representative of responding to this trend. The system is centered around compact size, excellent functionality, and highly modular design, seamlessly integrated through the EtherCAT high-speed bus, providing highly competitive solutions for equipment manufacturers and system integrators.

System Overview: Modular Design, Flexible Expansion

KeConnect C5 is an important component of the KEBA KeControl C5 control family, which achieves maximum flexibility in system configuration by connecting IO modules on the right and inserting expansion cards on the left. This consistent modular architecture enables users to flexibly combine various functional modules like building blocks according to specific application needs, thereby constructing a truly personalized automation control system.

The system provides two types of module widths: the ultra-thin module (width 13.8mm) occupies minimal space in the control cabinet, greatly saving installation volume; The standard module (width 26.5mm) provides more connection points (up to 40 pins), stronger heat dissipation capacity, and the possibility to accommodate special components while maintaining compactness. This differentiated design ensures the best balance between pursuing spatial optimization and functional richness.


Core module types and performance highlights

KeConnect C5 provides a rich range of module types covering a wide range of industrial applications, each of which is deeply optimized for specific needs.

1. Digital IO module: high-density and high reliability

DI 570 Digital Input Module: Provides 19 high-density digital inputs, of which two support cycle time measurement function and can be used for speed detection. Each input channel supports independently configured input filters with strong anti-interference ability.

DO 550/570 digital output module: DO 550 provides 16 channels of 0.5A output and supports 100% synchronization rate; The DO 570 provides 16 2A outputs and has the function of quickly disconnecting inductive loads (such as hydraulic valves), which can accelerate machine cycling and improve productivity. All outputs have short-circuit and overload diagnosis, and are electrically isolated through grouped power supply to meet higher safety requirements.

2. Analog IO module: high precision and fast response

AI 570/571 (voltage input) and AI 575/576 (current input): Provides up to 8 analog inputs with 16 bit resolution, supporting voltage, proportional, or ± 20mA/0-20mA/4-20mA current signal measurement, with a minimum cycle time of 125 μ s. The module integrates sensor power pins, simplifies wiring, and has sensor disconnection detection function.

AO 570/571 (voltage output) and AO 576 (current output): provide up to 8 analog outputs with 12 bit resolution, and also support a fast update cycle of 125 μ s to ensure the dynamic performance of the control circuit.

AM series analog hybrid module: innovatively integrates high-precision analog input and output on the same module. For example, the AM 570/571/572 integrates up to six 16 bit inputs and four 12 bit outputs, and the AM 575/577 integrates current input and output, providing an ideal choice for complex measurement and control tasks with limited space.

3. Temperature measurement module: professional and comprehensive

TI 550 Temperature Measurement Module: Supports various resistive temperature sensors such as PT100/1000, Ni100/1000, KTY, NTC, etc. It can be connected to 8-wire or 4-wire sensors with high measurement accuracy.

TI 570/571 Thermocouple Module: Provides up to 8 inputs, directly supports J, K, L, N type thermocouples, and can be extended to other types through microvolt mode. The characteristic of electrical isolation is achieved for each input, allowing for the mixed use of insulated and non insulated thermocouples without the need to change wiring, greatly improving the convenience of applications such as injection molding machines that require quick mold changes.

4. Positioning and Communication Module: Seamless Integration of Various Devices

MM 540 incremental encoder module: supports two 5V differential or 24V incremental encoders, with 32-bit resolution, 1MHz high-frequency response, frequency measurement with adaptive gate time, and latch input function, which can achieve high-precision position and velocity detection.

MI 550 SSI Interface Module: Provides 4 SSI interfaces, with a maximum transmission rate of 1Mbit/s, supports 32-bit resolution, and has wire breakage detection function, suitable for the integration of high-precision absolute value encoders.

FM 500/IM 500/SM 510/520 communication module: provides various industrial communication interfaces such as CANopen, RS232, RS422/485, 20mA current loop, etc., all of which use shielded connections to ensure anti-interference, and conveniently configure terminal resistors through DIP switches.
