UniOP ePAD32B, ePAD33B, and ePAD33BT High end Human Computer Interface: From Technical Features to Engineering Practice

In the field of industrial automation, the performance of human-machine interface (HMI) directly determines the interaction efficiency and data visualization depth between operators and control systems. When the application scenarios upgrade from simple parameter display and button input to complex graphic monitoring, trend analysis, video integration, and high-resolution vector graphics, entry-level text screens or monochrome small-sized HMIs become inadequate. The ePAD32B, ePAD33B, and ePAD33BT launched by UniOP are product lines aimed at this high-end demand. They adopt a flat industrial design with aluminum bezels, which is both sturdy and durable, and has a modern aesthetic. Among them, ePAD32B is equipped with a 9.6-inch VGA monochrome display screen, while ePAD33B and ePAD33BT are equipped with a 10.4-inch TFT color display screen, supporting 64K colors and 640 × 480 pixel resolution, and ePAD33B BT additionally provides a resistive touch screen. EPAD32B provides high-resolution monochrome display, suitable for occasions that do not require color but require fine graphics and long-lasting backlighting (such as outdoor strong light environments). EPAD33B is designed for standard industrial monitoring that requires color interfaces, analog instruments, and trend curves. EPAD33B adds a touch screen on the basis of ePAD33B, achieving a dual interaction between physical buttons and touch operations, greatly improving the flexibility of operations.


Analysis of Hardware Technical Parameters

2.1 Display and Resolution

EPAD32B: 9.6-inch monochrome LCD, VGA resolution 640 × 480. Although it is monochrome, the high pixel density makes graphics, text, and bar charts very clear and has excellent sunlight readability.

EPAD33B/ePAD33BT: 10.4-inch TFT color LCD, also 640 × 480 VGA, supports 64K colors (i.e. 16 bit color depth, can display 65536 colors). This number of colors is sufficient to present realistic device icons, alarm level differentiation (such as red for emergency and yellow for warning), and trend curves.

Both display screens support vector graphic capabilities, including advanced effects such as multi-layer graphic overlay and object transparency. In addition, ePAD33B and ePAD33BT also support analog gauge objects, which can be used to display analog quantities such as pressure and speed, with visual effects similar to traditional dashboards.

2.2 Physical Interaction

Physical keyboard: All three models are equipped with a complete industrial keyboard, including numeric keys, directional keys, function keys, etc. The aluminum alloy frame not only enhances the appearance texture, but also strengthens the impact resistance.

Touch screen (ePAD33BT only): Resistive touch screen, glove operated, high precision, suitable for frequent touch scenes. The coexistence of touch screen and physical keyboard allows operators to choose interaction methods based on preferences or task requirements.

2.3 Memory and Storage

User memory: 32 MB internal Flash (non-volatile), used to store engineering files, recipe data, trend records, and alarm history. Compared to the entry-level ePAD series (512KB or 8MB), the 32MB capacity can support complex projects containing hundreds of images, high-resolution bitmaps, multilingual text, and long-term trend data.

Formula storage: Through software configuration, formula data can be stored in user memory and transmitted to the upper computer via Ethernet.
