The 01-W3878F-02D belongs to Emerson’s DeltaV I/O family, which provides flexible and scalable I/O solutions for process control. This module features a combination of analog and digital I/O channels, each individually configurable. It mounts on a DeltaV I/O carrier and communicates with the controller over a redundant fieldbus. The module is designed for use in hazardous locations and features intrinsic safety options for field devices.
I/O Channels: 8 analog inputs (4-20 mA/HART), 4 analog outputs (4-20 mA/HART), and 8 digital inputs (24 V DC).
HART Communication: Built-in HART modem for each analog channel, enabling access to field device diagnostics.
Configurability: Each channel can be configured for current, voltage, or digital modes via software.
Diagnostics: Per-channel open-circuit detection, short-circuit monitoring, and module health status.
Redundancy: Supports redundant I/O carriers and communication for high availability.
Isolation: 1500 V AC isolation between field circuits and system logic.
Power Supply: 24 V DC from DeltaV backplane or external source.
Analog Input Resolution: 16-bit A/D, accuracy ±0.1% of span.
Analog Output Resolution: 16-bit D/A, load 750 Ω max.
Digital Input: 24 V DC, ON >15 V, OFF<5 V, 5 mA typical.
Digital Output: 24 V DC, 0.5 A per channel, short-circuit protected.
Update Rate: 100 ms for all channels.
Operating Temperature: -40°C to +70°C.
Dimensions: 125 x 45 x 115 mm (H x W x D).
Hazardous Area: ATEX, IECEx Zone 2 / Class I Div 2 (optional).

The module continuously scans input channels and communicates values to the DeltaV controller via the I/O bus. Output channels are updated based on controller commands. The integrated HART modems enable communication with smart transmitters, allowing access to secondary variables and diagnostic data. The module includes a watchdog timer that sets outputs to a user-defined safe state upon loss of communication.
Process control in chemical, pharmaceutical, and refining industries.
Oil and gas production and pipeline monitoring.
Power generation and water treatment.
Batch and continuous process automation.
The module installs in a DeltaV I/O carrier (e.g., CHARM or conventional). Configuration is performed using DeltaV Explorer, where I/O channels are assigned to control modules. The module supports electronic marshalling, reducing engineering effort. Field wiring is terminated on a separate termination assembly.
