OMRON CPM2C-S110C-DRT Compact PLC

The OMRON CPM2C-S110C-DRT is a compact programmable logic controller from the CPM2C series, featuring 10 built-in I/O points and integrated DeviceNet slave communication. This unit is designed for distributed automation applications where small, intelligent control nodes need to communicate with a DeviceNet master PLC or host system. The CPM2C series is known for its modular expandability and high-speed processing in a small footprint.

Technical Specifications

The CPM2C-S110C-DRT includes 6 DC inputs (24V) and 4 transistor outputs (sinking, 0.3A per point). The program memory capacity is 4K words, with data memory of 2K words. The basic instruction execution time is 0.64 microseconds, and special instructions execute in 1.2 microseconds. The built-in DeviceNet slave supports baud rates of 125k, 250k, and 500k, with up to 32 bytes of input data and 32 bytes of output data. The unit includes a real-time clock and a battery-backed memory. The power supply is 24V DC, consuming 180 mA. The dimensions are 95 mm wide, 70 mm high, and 55 mm deep, making it suitable for DIN rail mounting.


DeviceNet Integration

The integrated DeviceNet slave allows the CPM2C-S110C-DRT to act as a remote I/O node on a DeviceNet network. The unit's I/O and internal memory can be read and written by a DeviceNet master (e.g., OMRON CJ1W-DRM21 or CS1W-DRM21). The module supports explicit messaging for configuration and diagnostics. The DeviceNet address is set via two rotary switches on the front panel. LED indicators show network status, communication errors, and unit power. The unit also supports I/O data exchange using the OMRON DRT protocol, simplifying programming in multi-node systems.

Programming and Features

The CPM2C-S110C-DRT is programmed using OMRON's CX-Programmer software. The instruction set includes timers, counters, arithmetic operations, comparison, and data movement. The unit supports high-speed counters (5 kHz), interrupt inputs, and pulse outputs (5 kHz) for basic motion control. Two potentiometers on the front panel allow analog adjustments without programming. The CPU includes a peripheral port for connection to a programming device and a serial port for RS-232C communication (host link or no-protocol). Expansion I/O modules can be added using the CPM2C expansion connector, increasing total I/O up to 46 points.

Applications

This compact PLC is ideal for distributed control applications such as small conveyor zones, machine sub-assemblies, packaging equipment, and automated test stands. The DeviceNet slave capability allows the unit to be integrated into a larger control system while retaining local intelligence. The small size makes it suitable for mounting directly on machinery where space is limited.

Installation and Maintenance

The unit mounts on a DIN rail or directly with screws. The removable terminal blocks simplify wiring. The DeviceNet connection uses a standard 5-pin micro connector (male). The battery (CPM2C-BAT01) should be replaced every 5 years. The unit's self-diagnostic functions include CPU error, memory error, and I/O bus error detection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 55°C. The CPM2C series is discontinued but remains widely available as a replacement for installed systems.
