ABB DSQC643 3HAC024488-001 Robot Safety Control Board
The DSQC643 is a dedicated safety control board designed for ABB's IRC5 and earlier robot controller systems. It is a key component in the robot's safety circuit, monitoring emergency stops, safety gates, light curtains, and two-hand controls. The board features dual-channel architecture with redundant processors that cross-check each other, ensuring SIL 3 (IEC 61508) and PL e (ISO 13849-1) compliance. It provides 8 safety-rated digital inputs and 4 safety-rated digital outputs (OSSD type), along with a non-safety auxiliary output for status indication.
Technical Specifications
Safety Integrity Level: SIL 3 (IEC 61508), PL e (ISO 13849-1)
Inputs: 8 digital inputs, 24 VDC, sink/source, with test pulse monitoring
Outputs: 4 safety outputs (PNP, 24 VDC, 0.5 A each), short-circuit and overload protected
Response Time: ≤ 20 ms from input change to output switching
Communication: Serial link to robot main CPU (proprietary protocol)
Diagnostic LED: Status for power, inputs, outputs, and internal faults
Functional Features
The board continuously tests its own circuitry and the external wiring (e.g., for short circuits to ground or power). It supports configurable safety functions including muting, blanking, and bypass (with key-operated enable). The DSQC643 can store up to 10 safety configurations in non-volatile memory. It also includes a real-time clock for event logging of safety-related incidents.
Physical and Environmental
Dimensions: 160 mm × 100 mm (Eurocard 3U) with front panel. Weight: 0.3 kg. Power supply: 24 VDC (19.2–28.8 V), 150 mA typical. Operating temperature: 0–55°C; storage: -25–70°C; humidity: 10–95% non-condensing. The board plugs into a dedicated slot in the ABB robot controller rack.
Compatibility
This board is compatible with ABB IRC5 Compact, IRC5 Single Cabinet, and S4C+ controllers. It replaces older DSQC 623 and DSQC 633 boards. When replacing, ensure that the safety configuration is re-loaded via RobotStudio software. The board also works with ABB's SafeMove2 software option for advanced safety zone supervision.
Applications
Used in all ABB robotic workcells where operator safety is critical, including welding, assembly, material handling, and painting. The DSQC643 is essential for meeting international safety standards and is often used in automotive and general manufacturing plants.
