ABB SPOC 110 C-AA Network Control and Protection

The ABB SPOC 110 C-AA is a multifunctional numerical protection and control unit specifically designed for medium voltage distribution networks. It combines comprehensive protection functions with local control and communication capabilities, making it suitable for use in secondary distribution substations, industrial power systems, and utility networks. The device is part of ABB's SPOC family, known for its compact size and ease of integration.


Protection Functions

The SPOC 110 C-AA provides a complete set of protection elements essential for feeder protection:

  • Three-phase overcurrent (50/51): Definite time or inverse time characteristics (IEC, IEEE).

  • Earth fault protection (50N/51N): Sensitive and directional (67N) for isolated or compensated networks.

  • Directional overcurrent (67): For both phase and earth faults, enabling selective fault clearance in looped networks.

  • Overvoltage and undervoltage (59/27): With adjustable thresholds.

  • Recloser function (79): Multi-shot auto-reclosing with programmable sequences.

  • Underfrequency and overfrequency (81U/81O): Load shedding and network protection.

All protection stages are independently configurable via the front panel or software, with definite time or inverse time curves.


Control and Monitoring

Beyond protection, the SPOC 110 acts as a bay controller. It can operate circuit breakers and disconnectors locally via pushbuttons or remotely via communication. The device includes a programmable logic matrix for interlocking and automation tasks. It measures currents, voltages, power, energy, and frequency with high accuracy (class 0.5). Disturbance recording captures fault waveforms for analysis.

Communication and Integration

The unit supports standard communication protocols for integration into substation automation systems. Typically, it offers RS485 ports with Modbus RTU or IEC 60870-5-103. Optional Ethernet versions are available. The device can be accessed via a local HMI with LCD display and keypad, or remotely through the communication link.
