Advantest Q8383 Optical Spectrum Analyzer
Advantest Q8383 Optical Spectrum Analyzer
Brief description
Q8383 is a high-grade spectrum analyzer (Advantest) with double-pass monochromator and extremely low polarization dependence. Thanks to a special method used, a value of ±0.05 dB can be guaranteed, the typical value is as low as 0.02 dB. Together with the high accuracy of the resolution bandwidth, the Q8383 can be used to perform accurate power measurements.
Main features
• Sensitivity −92 dBm
• Polarization dependence ±0.05 dB
• Accuracy of resolution bandwidth ±2%
• Power measurement
• Pulse light measurement
Operation
In addition to the amplifier analysis, the versatile display modes such as
– overlay display,
– comparison with memory contents,
– display of two separate diagrams (split screen),
– power meter function,
– use of several markers,
– normalization and direct readout of transmission loss as well as
– automatic bandwidth analysis (eg half-value width measurement to RMS and envelope method),
– curve fitting
Key features
Low polarisation dependence: the Q8383 has an extremely low polarisation dependence of ±0.05 dB guaranteed, with typical values as low as 0.02 dB. This feature allows the analyser to be less affected by polarisation during measurements, improving the accuracy and stability of measurements.
High-precision power measurements: Thanks to its high-resolution bandwidth technology, the Q8383 is able to perform precise power measurements. Reliable analysis results are obtained for both broadband and narrowband light sources (e.g. lasers).
Multiple display modes: The analyser offers a variety of display modes, such as overlay display, comparison with memory contents, and display of two independent graphs (split screen), making it easy for users to select and compare as needed.
Built-in storage and printing functions: The Q8383 has a built-in disk drive as a storage medium, allowing the user to save measurement data as binary files and analyse them with the appropriate programs under MS-Windows. In addition, the analyser is equipped with a high-speed built-in thermal printer, which allows hard copies of measurement results with all setup parameters to be printed out in a short time.
Special Measurement Function: The Q8383 has a special measurement function that allows the user to determine parameters such as noise figure, gain and spontaneous emission by comparing the amplifier input signal with the output signal. This function is particularly useful when measuring Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifiers (EDFAs).
Curve Fitting Function: The analyser also has a curve fitting function that directly displays electroluminescence characteristics by fitting a Gaussian distribution to the emission spectrum. This is useful for measuring light sources such as EDFAs and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
Pulsed light measurements: The Q8383 supports pulsed light measurements and can be triggered internally or externally. This feature enables the analyser to be used in special scenarios such as fibre optic rings and soliton transmission systems.
