B&R X20 AI 4221 4-Channel Analog Input Module
The X20 AI 4221 is a high-density analog input module from B&R's X20 series, designed for industrial automation systems. It provides 4 configurable input channels, each independently selectable for voltage (0-10V, ±10V) or current (0-20mA, 4-20mA). The module features 12-bit resolution and an accuracy of ±0.2% full scale. It communicates with the X20 CPU via the X2X Link backplane bus, offering fast and deterministic data exchange.
Technical Specifications
Number of Channels: 4, galvanically isolated from each other and from the bus
Input Types: Voltage: 0-10V, ±10V; Current: 0-20mA, 4-20mA (software selectable)
Resolution: 12-bit (0.025% of full scale)
Conversion Time: 0.5 ms per channel (sequential)
Accuracy: ±0.2% FS at 25°C, ±0.4% over full temperature range
Input Impedance: >1 MΩ (voltage), 250 Ω (current)
Features
The module includes overvoltage protection (up to ±30V), and a wire break detection for 4-20mA inputs (programmable alarm). It also provides a common mode rejection of >80 dB. The channels can be configured for different ranges via the PLC's I/O mapping using the B&R Automation Studio software. Diagnostic LEDs indicate power, bus status, and per-channel overload.
Physical and Environmental
Dimensions: 12.5 mm width × 99 mm height × 68 mm depth (single slot). Weight: 0.08 kg. Power consumption: 50 mA from 5 VDC bus, plus 50 mA from 24 VDC field supply. Operating temperature: -25°C to +60°C; storage: -40°C to +85°C; humidity: 5–95% non-condensing. Protection class: IP20. The module snaps onto a DIN rail and uses a screw terminal block for wiring.
Integration
The X20 AI 4221 is compatible with all X20 CPU and I/O systems. Configuration is done via Automation Studio, where channels are assigned to variables. The module supports both cyclic and acyclic data exchange. Up to 64 modules can be connected per X2X Link network.
Applications
Used for temperature sensors, pressure transducers, flow meters, and potentiometers in industrial processes. The modular design allows flexible expansion for different applications.
