BENTLY 60R/CMM01 Communication and Multiplexer Module
The BENTLY 60R/CMM01 is a Communication and Multiplexer Module designed for the Bently Nevada 3300/20 Enhanced Machinery Protection System (EMPS). This module acts as a critical data highway and system integrator within a 3300 rack, serving two primary interconnected functions: internal data multiplexing and external communication gateway. It collects real-time monitoring data including vibration, position, and temperature from all other monitor modules such as 3300/46 and 60R/INP01 in the same chassis, then provides standardized serial communication ports to transmit consolidated data to external systems such as Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, or plant-wide condition monitoring software.
Technical Specifications
The 60R/CMM01 communicates with all other modules in the 3300 chassis via a proprietary high-speed backplane bus, polling individual monitor modules and aggregating their data. For external communication, the module is equipped with an RS-232 serial port typically used for local configuration and connection to a laptop, and an RS-422 or RS-485 serial port for long-distance, multi-drop network connection to DCS, PLC, or SCADA systems. The module primarily supports Modbus RTU in Slave mode, with the ability to support other protocols such as Bently Nevada proprietary TDX for older System 1 connections. The module can handle data from a fully populated 3300 rack with up to 8 or more monitor modules.

Configuration and Integration
The 60R/CMM01 is configured via Bently Nevada configuration software such as BNC Toolbox connected through the RS-232 port. Configuration parameters include Modbus slave address, baud rate, data format, and data mapping defining which register holds which channel data. The module is powered from the 3300 rack backplane, eliminating the need for external power wiring. By consolidating data from individual monitor modules and providing a single digital link for both real-time values and system status, the CMM01 eliminates the need to wire individual alarm contacts from each monitor for every point, significantly reducing installation complexity and cost.
System Functions
The module functions as the network interface and data router for the 3300 rack, polling individual monitor modules via the rack high-speed backplane bus. The CMM01 often also handles system-level functions including providing a common clock for time-stamping events and facilitating rack-wide configuration. Think of the CMM01 as the network interface and data router for the 3300 rack, enabling seamless integration of machinery protection data into plant-wide automation and monitoring systems without requiring complex point-to-point wiring from each monitoring channel.
Applications
The BENTLY 60R/CMM01 is deployed in machinery protection systems requiring integration of vibration and condition monitoring data with plant control systems. Typical applications include steam turbine and gas turbine monitoring where vibration data must be transmitted to DCS for operator display and alarming, compressor protection systems where Modbus communication provides real-time shaft position and vibration readings to PLC-based control logic, and large pump monitoring systems requiring integration of machinery health data into SCADA for remote operator visibility. The module is essential for facilities implementing centralized condition monitoring programs with Bently Nevada System 1 software or integrating 3300 series monitors into broader automation architectures.
