BENTLY 60R/SIM01 Simplex Single-Channel Proximitor Power Supply

The BENTLY 60R/SIM01 is a Simplex Power Supply and Signal Conditioner Module designed for the Bently Nevada 3300 series of machinery condition monitoring systems. This module serves a dual critical function: it provides isolated, regulated power to a single 3300 series proximity transducer typically an 8 mm or 11 mm probe, and it conditions and processes the raw RF signal from that transducer to produce standardized, scalable analog voltage outputs representing vibration or position and a gap voltage DC bias signal. SIM stands for Simplex In-line Monitor, highlighting its single-channel, in-line mounting design within a rack or chassis.

Technical Specifications

The 60R/SIM01 connects to a single 3300 series 8 mm or 11 mm proximity probe and its extension cable, providing -24V DC excitation to the probe. The module produces two primary output signals: Gap Voltage, a DC output ranging from -24V to -6V DC that is linearly proportional to the average distance between the probe tip and the observed surface, and Dynamic Signal, an AC output from 0 to -20V DC peak-to-peak representing vibration or dynamic position. The dynamic signal sensitivity is typically 200 mV per mil or 7.87 V per mm. The power supply requires +24V DC nominal input, typically from the system backplane or external power supply, with a wide operating range of +18 to +32V DC. Frequency response is typically 0 to 10 kHz depending on specific model variant.

Signal Processing

The 60R/SIM01 takes the high-frequency, low-amplitude oscillator or demodulator signal from the probe, converts it into a precise -24V to -6V DC gap voltage indicating the average distance between the probe tip and the observed surface, and a 0 to -20V DC dynamic vibration or position signal that is AC-coupled and represents the changing gap. These outputs are then sent to monitors for display, alarming, and recording. The module is a fundamental component in monitoring radial vibration, axial position or thrust, differential expansion, or eccentricity of rotating machinery such as turbines, compressors, and pumps.

Function as Interface

Functioning as a single-channel interface between the sensitive proximity probe and the monitoring system such as a 3300/20 or 3300/46 monitor, the 60R/SIM01 ensures reliable and accurate signal transmission. The module provides isolated, regulated power to the proximity transducer, conditions the raw RF signal, and produces standardized outputs that can be directly connected to monitoring modules. The Simplex designation indicates a single-channel configuration, appropriate for applications where redundant measurements are not required or where individual channels are distributed across multiple modules for isolation.

Applications

The BENTLY 60R/SIM01 is deployed in machinery monitoring applications requiring single-channel proximity probe signal conditioning. Typical applications include radial vibration monitoring of turbine shafts where individual probes measure vibration at each bearing location, thrust position monitoring for axial displacement measurement of compressor rotors, differential expansion monitoring between turbine casing and rotor, and shaft eccentricity measurement during startup to detect shaft bow. The module is used in steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, large pumps, and any rotating machinery where Bently Nevada 3300 series proximity probes provide non-contact displacement measurement for protection and condition monitoring.
