Basler DECS-100-A05 Digital AVR – Optimized for Engine-Driven Generators
The Basler DECS-100-A05 is a member of the DECS-100 family, specifically configured with the A05 option set. This model is designed to meet the unique requirements of diesel and natural gas engine-driven generators, providing stable voltage regulation across varying engine speeds and load conditions. Its digital architecture ensures high accuracy and fast response, essential for prime and standby power applications.
Core Features
The regulator features a compact design with a 5 A continuous field output (10 A forcing), suitable for generators up to 500 kVA. It includes a built-in under-frequency roll-off that reduces excitation when the engine speed drops, protecting both the generator and connected loads. The A05 option adds an analog input for remote voltage setpoint adjustment via an external potentiometer or PLC.
Voltage regulation accuracy is ±0.5% over the entire load range, with a transient response of less than 20 ms for a 20% load step. The regulator uses a true RMS sensing circuit, ensuring accurate measurement even with non-linear loads.
Settings and Tuning
Front-panel potentiometers allow adjustment of voltage setpoint, stability (gain), and droop (for parallel operation). The stability control is optimized for the typical inertia of engine-generator sets, reducing hunting and ensuring smooth operation. An optional external CT input enables reactive droop compensation for load sharing.
Protection Functions
Over-excitation limiting, short-circuit current limiting, and thermal protection are standard. The regulator also includes a loss-of-sensing detection that automatically transfers to a manual backup mode.
Installation and Wiring
The DECS-100-A05 is housed in a rugged enclosure for panel mounting. Terminal blocks accept wires up to 12 AWG. The unit operates on a wide auxiliary supply (24–250 VDC or 100–240 VAC) and includes isolated voltage and current inputs.
Applications
Ideal for stationary diesel generator sets in industrial plants, hospitals, data centers, and telecommunications. It is also used in mobile generator trailers and marine auxiliary units.
Maintenance
With solid-state construction, maintenance is limited to periodic inspection. The regulator's self-diagnostics provide status indication via LED.
Compliance
Meets IEC and UL standards for industrial control equipment.
Conclusion
The Basler DECS-100-A05 provides a cost-effective, dependable digital AVR solution for engine-driven generators, ensuring consistent power quality and protection.
