Basler Electric DECS100‑B15 Automatic Voltage Regulator

The Basler Electric DECS100‑B15 is a digital automatic voltage regulator (AVR) designed for synchronous generators in utility, industrial, and marine applications. It provides precise voltage regulation, reactive power control, and comprehensive protection for generators of all sizes. The DECS100‑B15 features a powerful microprocessor that enables advanced control algorithms, flexible communication, and user‑friendly configuration. Its robust design ensures reliable operation in harsh electrical environments.

Control and Regulation

The regulator employs a PID control with adaptive gain for optimal transient and steady‑state performance. Voltage setpoint is adjustable over a wide range, and the unit supports both droop and isochronous operation for parallel applications. The DECS100‑B15 includes a built‑in power system stabilizer (PSS) to damp low‑frequency oscillations. It also offers reactive power (Q) and power factor (PF) control modes, allowing flexible system integration. A soft‑start function provides smooth voltage build‑up during generator start‑up.

Excitation Output

Output voltage: 0‑150 VDC or 0‑300 VDC (depending on model), with continuous current capacity up to 15 A (peak higher). The output is protected against short circuits and overcurrent. The regulator includes a field flashing circuit for initial excitation and a field over‑excitation limiter to prevent rotor overheating. A field current monitor output is available for external metering.

Communication and Programming

The DECS100‑B15 features a front‑panel LCD display and keypad for local programming and monitoring. It supports communication protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and DNP3 via RS‑232, RS‑485, and Ethernet ports. Configuration software (BestCOMS) allows intuitive parameter setting, trending, and event logging. The regulator stores settings in non‑volatile memory with battery‑backed real‑time clock for time‑stamped events.


Protection and Diagnostics

Integrated protection includes loss of sensing, over/under excitation, over/under voltage, over/under frequency, and thermal monitoring. The unit provides alarm and trip outputs, and a self‑diagnostic routine checks internal hardware and firmware integrity. LEDs indicate status and fault conditions for rapid troubleshooting.
