The OMRON CS1W-AD081-V1 is a high-performance analog input module for the SYSMAC CS1 series PLC platform. This Special I/O Unit provides 8 analog input channels with selectable voltage and current ranges, 16-bit resolution, and fast conversion times for precision measurement applications in industrial automation and process control.

Product Overview

The CS1W-AD081-V1 belongs to the CS-series Analog I/O Unit family, which provides comprehensive analog measurement capabilities for CS1 and CS1D PLC systems. This module is designed to convert analog signals from field sensors and transmitters into digital values that can be processed by the PLC CPU. The module supports eight independent input channels, allowing a single unit to monitor multiple analog points while minimizing rack space utilization.

The module complies with international standards including CE, UL, and CUL certifications, ensuring suitability for global industrial applications. The V1 designation indicates a specific revision level of the module's hardware and firmware design.


Input Signal Specifications

The CS1W-AD081-V1 supports five selectable input signal ranges that can be configured independently for each of the eight channels:

  • 1 to 5 VDC

  • 0 to 5 VDC

  • 0 to 10 VDC

  • -10 to +10 VDC (bipolar)

  • 4 to 20 mA (current loop)

The module provides 16-bit resolution across the selected input range, delivering 1/4,000 resolution with the capability to be set to 1/8,000 for applications requiring even finer measurement granularity. The conversion time is 1 millisecond per input channel, with the ability to set the conversion speed to 250 microseconds per input for applications requiring faster data acquisition rates.

Accuracy and Performance

The CS1W-AD081-V1 delivers exceptional measurement accuracy of ±0.1% of full scale, ensuring reliable and repeatable data acquisition for critical process measurements. Input impedance for voltage signals is greater than 1 MΩ, minimizing loading effects on the signal source and preserving signal integrity. For current inputs, the impedance is 250 Ω, which is appropriate for standard 4-20 mA current loop instruments.

The module includes channel error detection diagnostics that enhance system reliability by allowing users to quickly identify issues with specific input channels. This diagnostic capability simplifies troubleshooting and reduces system downtime when measurement problems occur.

External Connections and Power Requirements

The CS1W-AD081-V1 uses a removable terminal block for external wiring, facilitating installation and simplifying module replacement during maintenance. The terminal block arrangement accommodates wiring for eight analog input channels plus associated common and shielding connections. The module's external connection design supports both voltage and current input configurations, with appropriate jumper settings or wiring arrangements to select the desired input type for each channel.

The module is assigned two unit numbers in the CS1 series I/O allocation system. Current consumption from the PLC backplane is 0.12 A at 5 VDC, with additional consumption of 0.09 A at 26 VDC for the analog input circuits. The module should be installed in a CS1 or CS1D PLC rack following standard installation procedures.

Applications

The CS1W-AD081-V1 is ideally suited for industrial and process control applications requiring accurate measurement of analog signals. Typical applications include temperature monitoring using thermocouples or RTDs with signal conditioners, pressure and flow measurement using 4-20 mA transmitters, level monitoring in tanks and silos, position feedback from potentiometers or LVDTs, and voltage monitoring from power supplies or generators.
