OMRON CS1W-DA041 Analog Output Unit for CS1 Series PLCs

The OMRON CS1W-DA041 is an analog output module designed for the CS1 series programmable logic controllers. This Special I/O Unit converts binary data from the CPU into continuous analog signals, enabling precise control of variable speed drives, valve positioners, chart recorders, and other analog-controlled devices within industrial processes. The CS1W-DA041 integrates seamlessly with CS1 CPU racks and expansion backplanes, providing reliable analog output capability for applications requiring smooth, proportional control rather than simple discrete On/Off regulation.

Analog Output Specifications

The CS1W-DA041 provides two independent analog output channels, each configurable for voltage or current output ranges to match field device requirements. Compatible analog output signal ranges include 0 to 5 V, 1 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, -10 to +10 V, 4 to 20 mA, and 0 to 20 mA, with range selection per channel configurable in the Data Memory (DM). This flexibility allows a single module to serve mixed applications, such as driving a 4 to 20 mA valve positioner on one channel while providing 0 to 10 V to a variable frequency drive on the other channel.

The module offers 1/4000 resolution (12-bit equivalent) for standard output ranges, providing smooth and precise analog control signal resolution. When operating voltage outputs, the maximum load current is 10 mA per channel. For current outputs, the maximum load resistance is 600 Ohms, ensuring compatibility with most industrial receiving devices.

Output Functions and Conversion

The CS1W-DA041 performs D/A conversion that transforms digital values from the PLC CPU into proportional analog signals for field devices. The conversion speed is fast enough to maintain real-time responsiveness in closed-loop control applications. The unit supports offset and gain adjustment functions, enabling precise calibration of the output range to match the exact requirements of connected equipment. This calibration capability compensates for device tolerances and installation variations.

Scaling functionality allows raw PLC data to be directly converted into signal values without requiring complex ladder logic calculations. For example, a 0 to 10,000 PLC data value can be scaled to directly represent 0 to 10 V output, simplifying programming and enhancing code readability. The module includes output hold functions that determine output behavior during CPU errors, communication failures, or program mode transitions, preventing unintended actuator movements during system faults.

System Integration and Compatibility

The CS1W-DA041 mounts directly into CS1 CPU racks or CS1W-BI expansion backplanes, occupying one Special I/O Unit slot. The module communicates with the CPU unit via the CS1 backplane bus, with analog output values written from the CPU to the module using MOV instructions. The analog output numbers used are set in the Data Memory (DM) configuration area, allowing flexible allocation of output channels.

The module is compatible with OMRON CS1G-CPU4, CS1H-CPU6, and other CS1-series CPU units. For system expansion, multiple CS1W-DA041 units can be installed in a single rack or across expansion racks, supporting up to 80 points of analog output for large-scale process control applications. The unit conforms to CE marking standards, ensuring compliance with European industrial regulations.

Physical Characteristics

The CS1W-DA041 features screw-type terminal blocks for secure field wiring connections. Status indicators provide visual confirmation of module operation, with LEDs indicating power, ready, error, and output status per channel. The module includes a DIP switch panel for setting unit number and other configuration parameters, while detailed output signal range configuration is performed through Data Memory settings accessible via CX-Programmer software.
