The DEIF IPM-1 is a dedicated protection module engineered to safeguard generator sets and associated power systems from electrical abnormalities. It consolidates multiple protective functions into a single, compact unit, ensuring operational integrity and minimizing the risk of damage due to faults.
The IPM-1 provides comprehensive protection including overcurrent (with definite time or inverse time characteristics), overvoltage, undervoltage, overfrequency, underfrequency, and reverse power (directional power) protection. Each protection element is independently adjustable, allowing precise coordination with upstream and downstream devices. The module continuously monitors the generator's three-phase voltages and currents via connected PTs and CTs, and trips the generator breaker or alarms when preset thresholds are exceeded.

Housed in a rugged, compact enclosure suitable for DIN-rail mounting, the IPM-1 is designed for easy integration into switchgear panels. It features dedicated LED indicators for each protection function, simplifying status monitoring and troubleshooting. The module provides isolated relay outputs for trip and alarm signals, which can be wired directly to the breaker trip coil or to a PLC/controller. It also offers analog outputs for retransmission of measured values if required.
The IPM-1 is widely used in marine and industrial generator applications where reliable protection is paramount. It is particularly valuable in parallel operating systems where reverse power protection is critical to prevent motoring of a failed engine. Additionally, it serves as a cost-effective protection solution for standalone gensets, ensuring compliance with safety standards and protecting downstream loads from supply abnormalities.
By centralizing essential protection functions, the DEIF IPM-1 reduces wiring complexity and panel space compared to discrete relays. Its robust design meets marine and industrial environmental standards, ensuring long-term reliability. The module's fast response times and accurate measurements help to minimize equipment damage during faults. For system integrators, the IPM-1 offers a simple, field-proven method to enhance generator protection without requiring extensive engineering effort.
